Южная Африка и Австралия будут бороться за место в финале Чемпионата мира по крикету ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Полуфинал состоится в четверг, 16 ноября, в «Иден Гарденс» в Калькутте. Матч начнется в 14:00 (UTC+5:30), а победитель выйдет в финал против Индии или Новой Зеландии.
19 ноября финал чемпионата мира пройдет на стадионе имени Нарендры Моди в Ахмадабаде.

Online exhibition "Negotiating Democracy in South Africa"

The Nelson Mandela Foundation in collaboration with Khulu Mbatha has developed the exhibition “Negotiating Democracy in South Africa. 1990-1994: How democracy was forged”. The collection of photographic images of ANC leaders in the 1990s forms the fulcrum for a reflection on the negotiation process. The exhibition’s content is also supported by the O’Malley archive – especially the interviews with those who appear in Mbatha’s photographs – Mandela’s own notes and others.

C 19 января по 11 февраля 2024 года на пяти площадках Южной Африки пройдет чемпионат мира по крикету среди юношей до 19 лет (ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024). В турнире примут участие 16 команд, в общей сложности будет сыгран 41 матч. Южная Африка в третий раз примет чемпионат мира среди юношей до 19 лет - после предыдущих турниров в 1998 и 2020 годах. The ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024

The ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 will be held in South Africa from January 19 to February 11 across five venues. Sixteen teams will take part in the 50-over tournament, which will see a total of 41 matches being played. It will be the third time that South Africa has hosted the Under 19 World Cup - after previous editions in 1998 and 2020. All teams will play two warm-up fixtures in South Africa between January 13-17.

South Africa is one of the ten largest wine producers in the world, producing more than a billion liters of wine per year. Today, the main grape varieties planted are: Pinotage , Chenin blanc, Cabernet sauvignon, Colombard, Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Syrah, Gewurtztraminer, Riesling, Trebbiano, Sémillon and Muscat d'Alexandrie.

On Saturday, 16 March, during the annual Cape Town Carnival spectators can look forward to more than 1000 performers from various communities across the province taking part in the festivities. It is also known that the organizers provide a safe space for the youth, and teach them drama, arts, and indigenous music. During the media launch held on Thursday, 18 January, Prof Rachel Jafta, Cape Town Carnival chair, said the event raises the level of social cohesion.

South African designers will present their collections at Moscow Fashion Week

The brand-new season of Moscow Fashion Week is taking place from March 1 to 8, 2024 at two main venues: at VDNH (Pavilion 75), as part of the ‘Russia’ Expo and at the Central Exhibition Hall 'Manege'. Fashion shows of Russian and international designers will be a part of Moscow Fashion Week. Designers will hold shows within the framework of bilateral cooperation agreements signed at the BRICS+ Fashion Summit.

Криминальная комедия Джона Баркера, рассказывающая об ограблении банка, завоевала множество кинопремий и была признана лучшим фильмом на лондонском фестивале Film Africa Fest.

On April 22 in St. Petersburg, with the support of the Honorary Consul of South Africa to St. Petersburg Borisenko V.V. and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of South Africa to the Russian Federation Mzuvukile Maketuki an event devoted to the Freedom Month of South Africa was held.  
The film «The Umbrella Men» (South Africa, 2022) was shown on a movie screen of the famous St. Petersburg cinema “Aurora”.  
John Barker's crime comedy, which tells the story of the bank takeover, won many film awards and was recognized as best film at the London Film Africa Fest.

On April 23, a salon of South African wines was held at the River Palace Hotel

The event was organized with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Moscow. The wine tasting was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of SA to the RF Mzuvukile Maqetuka and the Honorary Consul of South Africa to St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region Borisenko V.V.
73 tasting samples, a wine casino, and a quiz were offered for guests at the event. Musical accompaniment was provided by the band of South African vocalist Claude Booysen.

This day was officially recognized after the first democratic elections of 1994.
Workers’ Day in South Africa has been officially recognised and observed since the first democratic elections in 1994. The holiday serves both as a celebration of workers’ rights and as a reminder of the critical role that trade unions, the Communist Party and other labour organisations played in the fight against Apartheid.
Because South Africa’s working classes were those most oppressed by Apartheid, the struggle for better working conditions and the struggle to overthrow systemic segregation became closely linked. Before the elections of 1994, labour and trade groups often used Workers’ Day as a symbol to rally the population against the segregation and oppression of the Apartheid system, organising demonstrations and encouraging widespread resistance.
