To prepare for a possible shutdown from Unreal and Unity, the Russian government decided to sponsor a new fully custom and Open Source Engine, called Nau. It's finally in beta, so everyone can try it out! The UI is provided in both English and Russian and the project is hosted on GitHub.

Some features, like Rendering components were given by Dagor Engine (the one that is used by War Thunder). The editor right now is very minimalistic and the documentation is very limited. As we all like!

It took them only 20 years since GIMP 2 and 7 years since the announcement of v3 development to finally release GIMP 3!

Now the app has non-destructive editing with text layers that keep text information, with filters that can be applied and combined on the go, etc.

Oddly enough, NVIDIA decided they need some good news too and finally open sourced the GPU kernel for Physx.

For a few years their physics library was open source in general, but was able to run on a CPU if NVIDIA GPU wasn't found. Now it's in the past and 3rd party GPUs may become compatible.

They also messed up with RTX 50, which is on a hardware level unable to run 32-bit Physx in old games. It may be fixed by some software tricks now.

Linus Torvalds rejected the code from Google programmer who tried to improve the Risk V support.

And in his casual manner the creator of Linux was pointlessly rude. Each time I get curious about toxicity of Linux enthusiasts, I remember who founded all that.

S&box goes open source!
(Under MIT)

A modern game engine, built on Valve's Source 2 and the latest .NET technology, it provides a modern intuitive editor for creating games. BUT!

Obviously this isn't the Source 2 code, that's up to Valve to open source if they want. For us Source 2 is providing lower level systems, all our high level systems are C# like the entire editor, networking, scene system, UI, and way more.

Which means, it's partially MIT.

A useful batch-processing plugin for GIMP 3 (since BIMP is limited to GIMP 2.x): it can do tons of stuff on folders and file queues and runs very fast, since it's relying on GIMP acceleration.

The script can be as complex as you dare to make it, like running certain actions on certain layers, like "blur on current layer".

The best CMS just turned 25!

I'm using it since 2009 which is probably longer than some of you lived. And it's still doing oddly good.

Absolutely modular in terms of features and templates, it gives flexibility to build exactly what you want, not just another slow and bloated WP blog.

So, a fella turned the NTFS compression into GUI (free and open source): you can "safely" compress games and files. They will be uncompressed in RAM on the fly. Seamless with minimal performance drop.

- The games will not notice the change, I've tried a few online games with anticheats and there was no warning.

- Will not affect the performance unless you're very low on RAM or drive space anyway

- Will most of the time shrink the folder by 5-10%, the highest I've seen was about 40%.

- The compression will take time on HDD, but de-compression will anyway go in RAM so it should speed up the boot time on HDD a little.

Components of the EVE Online engine were open-sourced (under MIT licence):

Which means, they can be freely used even for commercial purposes but users have to credit the original author and not pretend they made the whole thing.
