MY BLOGGING STORY

Involved with a group of independent filmmakers in this project, with yours truly being featured in this clip released by Viddsee .

In this clip, I shared why and how I started my blog - BoLASEPaKO.com.

The key moments in my blogging journey that saw me picked up the camera along the way to capture some of those intriguing moments which I hope will be a part of Singapore football folklore in years to come to share with the future generations.

Many thanks to Syamsul Bahari and his team for the opportunity for this opportunity to share my blogging journey.

Singapore Football - LIONS' TRAINING 010921

National Coach Tatsuma Yoshida called up 22 locally-based players for a series of training sessions during the FIFA international window.

The training sessions saw the newcomers in the likes of Song Ui-young of Lion City Sailors and Hougang United's Afiq Noor.

The sessions also saw the return of skipper Hariss Harun alongside Faritz Hameed, Jacob Mahler and Geylang International's Amy Recha whose last call-up was back in July 2016.

TURNED THE TIDE ๐ŸŒŠ

โšฝ Lion City Sailors made sure they are still holding firmly on the steering wheel when they came from behind to beat Young Lions at the JBS.

๐Ÿค“ So we are right on course for the battle royale this Friday (17/9) when the Sailors are hoping to narrow the gap between them and league leaders Albirex Niigata (Singapore).

๐Ÿ“ One of the things that Sailors need to do is to ensure they avoid any careless mistake in the showdown that could be catastrophic (๐ŸŽฅ AIA Singapore Premier League)

โณ After months of anticipation, we are given some updates on the Unleash The Roar! (UTR!) project days ago.

๐Ÿค” When I first read about it, my main concern would be the sustainability of those ten School Football Academies (SFAs) schools (ie: resources like financial, manpower, etc.) which are the cornerstones of the update.

๐Ÿ™ Are we getting full support from the Ministry of Education (MOE) on the setting up of these SFA schools? Let's hope so, especially it seems to me past blueprints like "Goal 2010" did not have the backing of the educators.

๐Ÿ  Besides MOE who must wholeheartedly support the "SFA" concept, I think to convince the parents of this UTR! is a viable project is equally important too.

๐Ÿค While it seems that the UTR! received a booster with Borussia Dortmund (BvB) and LaLiga coming on board as strategic partners, there are concerns of the roles to be played by them who are being viewed as commercial entities by some.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ "... with the UTR! working with these commercial entities (BvB and LaLiga) which exist in this region for their marketing and branding objectives, for our country's technical development, are we getting what we need or buying what is sold to us?" queried football consultant Khairul Asyraf.

๐Ÿ‡ถ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Citing the example of Qatar Aspire Academy on how they recruit the best foreign technical talents to develop their local athletes, Khairul opined the Qatari infrastructure is created with their expertise, using foreign technology for the local context.

๐Ÿ”— "We must build what is here first, these foreign links can come later when our cream can really compete or will benefit from stints and time there." added the former youth coach.

(P.S: Seems like the name of the project is confirmed?)

DON'T DISCREDIT IT BECAUSE IT IS SIMPLE

๐Ÿงฒ It may just be a plain looking piece of foldable magnet to most people.

๐Ÿ“Œ Because of its magnetic characteristics, a piece of BOLGNET, as what is it called, is more than just bookmark which function better than its conventional counterparts, it is also a fridge magnet to "stick" memo on most metallic surfaces like whiteboard.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ While people may use items like keys, working passes, etc. to "chope a seat" at food courts, hawker centres or "kopitiams" during peak dining periods, I would just clip my namecard using a BOLGNET and place it on the table and generating some awareness for my platform - BoLASEPaKO.com.

๐Ÿšจ So you see before you discredit this little thing because of its simplicity, look further deeper to see how BOLGNET can help you in your daily routine without even notice it.

โš ๏ธ YES, MALAYSIA CUP IS IMPORTANT!

๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ With 67% responded"๐Ÿ˜ง?" in a recent IG story poll on why I said the abovementioned statement, I will explain in a newly published blog post

Also in the same blog post, I will explain:

โžก๏ธ Why I didn't shoot in the recent AFF Suzuki Cup? (if you guys keen to know)

โžก๏ธ It is easier these days to generate content by re-curated the made available ones

โžก๏ธ Just selective to avoid being blended as one

โžก๏ธ Photo taking is still a key pillar

UNCLE CHOO'S WISDOM OF THOUGHTS

The legendary "Uncle" Choo Seng Quee penned a three-page article in June 1976's "Singapore Soccer" monthly titled - THERE'S A NEED FOR A SOCCER REVOLUTION IN SINGAPORE and summarized by a friend in the following points.

Widely considered as the best coach in Singapore footballing history, Choo counted on many famous footballers in this country as his proteges.

The aforementioned article can be founded in the binded collection of "Singapore Soccer" in NLB's Lee Kong Chian Reference Library.

STAY PAROCHIAL AT YOUR OWN PERIL

The idea of sharing past occurrences of local football on this platform is to remind us what happened in the past and how those events should inspire us to do better.

It is never meant to be a channel to allow certain groups or ideologies to claim superiority over other groups or beliefs.

It has not been uncommon to see some lauded and immortalised the achievements of those many decades ago while belittling the efforts of those who did us proud in recent years.

These thoughts came to me after I read a book recently in which a former national player lamented efforts by his club mates and himself in a continental tournament meant little significance to many fans who still basking in the glory of a domestic Cup competition which Singapore long associated in the past (need not for me to elaborate which Cup competition).

This only tells us the parochial mindset that is etched in the mindset of some fans who still cannot let go of the past.

While we are not sure if the recent showing by Lion City Sailors in the AFC Champions League would inspire other clubs to do better in subsequent years to come.

Having us lifted the Asean titles in the recent past did not seem to spur us to aim for greater heights.

Instead, things went a downward spiral after a misguided initiative.

To reverse the tide to improve our local game, that parochial mindset must be one of the first things to go.

CUBS or YOUNG LIONS

I must be probably one of the rare few in Singapore to nickname the Singapore National Under-23 squad as "THE CUBS", whereas most would call them "YOUNG LIONS".

For a good reason, I thought "CUBS" should be the appropriate one in this context, even though some opined those national teams in the teenage group should be called that.

Simply because "YOUNG LIONS" is a team playing in the Singapore Premier League (SPL) and not a team representing the Republic in international tournaments.

To nickname the Singapore National Under-23 as "YOUNG LIONS" would only give a wrong interpretation that the SPL team of the same name is THE ONE representing Singapore in overseas competitions when it is not (even though the bulk of the CUBS were selected from the YOUNG LIONS on many occasions).

After all, the function of "YOUNG LIONS" is for developmental purposes in a professional setting.

While as far as I know, there isn't any official decree whatsoever to determine the National Under-23 squad as "CUBS" or "YOUNG LIONS".

But the obstinacy in me thinks "CUBS" is the appropriate nickname for the Singapore National Under-23 squad.

#bftp9am - 1977 MALAYSIA CUP MATCH TICKET

This is one of the 1977 match tickets I took over the custody today.

The late Mr Dollah Kassim told me this match (1977 Malaysia Cup semifinal vs Selangor) was one of the best games he played for Singapore.

Need to head down to National Library Board again soon.
