โœ”๏ธโœ”๏ธ Accept and agree

๐Ÿ”บ Before an infinitive, use โ€˜agreeโ€™, not โ€˜acceptโ€™.

โ–ช๏ธ She agreed to come. (NOT She accepted to come.)

๐Ÿ”บ You cannot put a that-clause immediately after agree or disagree. For example, you cannot write โ€˜I agree that smoking should be banned.โ€™ Instead, you have to write โ€˜I agree with the view / opinion / argument that smoking should be bannedโ€™.

Examples:

โ–ช๏ธI disagree with your opinion that cars should not be allowed in city centres.

โ–ช๏ธDo you agree with the statement that education should be free for all?

IELTS Band 7+

โญ•๏ธPhrasal Verbs and
IELTSโญ•๏ธ

Phrasal Verbs can be important for IELTS as someone who can use them naturally shows that they have a good command of the English language. They can be used in writing in some cases and in spoken language.

โญ•๏ธWhy are Collocations important for IELTS?โญ•๏ธ
The examiner will be judging you on this. For example, here is what the IELTS public band descriptors say for an IELTS band 7 for lexis (vocabulary):

โ€œuses less common lexical items with some awareness of style and collocationโ€œ

So to achieve a band 7 in this criteria, not only do you need to be using some less common words, you also need to show to some extent that you know what other words these less common words are usually used with.

Between you and me

๐Ÿ”บ A common mistake in spoken English is to say โ€˜between you and Iโ€™, as in this sentence:

โŒ Don't say: Itโ€™s a tiny bit boring, between you and I.

โœ… Say: Itโ€™s a tiny bit boring, between you and me.

๐Ÿ”บ In standard English, itโ€™s grammatically correct to say โ€˜between you and meโ€™ and incorrect to say โ€˜between you and Iโ€™.

๐Ÿ”บ The reason for this is that a preposition such as between should be followed by an objective pronoun (such as me, him, her, and us) rather than a subjective pronoun (such as I, he, she, and we).

Remember: the correct expression is โ€˜between you and meโ€™
