Bar chart is the same as line graph. However, Bar charts don't always show time, they often only compare numbers.

IELTS Writing 1 (General)

Dear Roger,
I am writing to ask you about a valuable possession that was broken while you were staying at my apartment last week. When I returned home, I discovered that my porcelain vase was broken. It is one of my most important possessions.
The vase I am talking about is a porcelain vase that was on the coffee table in the living room. It is mostly blue with gold around the rim. It has flowers and butterflies hand painted all over it.
This vase is very important to me. In the first place, it is handmade and very old, which makes it worth a good deal of money. It is even more valuable to me because it once belonged to my grandmother.
I am very sad that you broke it, but I have a solution to suggest. I know someone who can repair it if you would pay for the cost of the repairs.

Choose the best conclusion for the letter above.

Which text is written in a formal style?

๐Ÿ…ฐ๏ธ Sorry not to get back to you sooner. Iโ€™ve had a lot on, what with the new job and stuff like that. But weโ€™re in luck โ€“ Iโ€™ve just found out Iโ€™ve got the whole of next week off ! So tell you what: letโ€™s get together Monday pm. Let me know asap if thatโ€™s OK with you.

๐Ÿ…ฑ๏ธ I am sorry it has taken me so long to reply to you, but I have been very busy because of my new job, among other things. Luckily, though, it seems I donโ€™t have to work next week, so perhaps we could we meet up after lunch on Monday? Please let me know as soon as you can if that would suit you.

๐Ÿ…พ๏ธ I would like to express my apologies for the delay in replying to you. I have been extremely occupied on account of my new position, in addition to other matters. Fortunately, however, it has been announced that the office will be closed next week, which therefore means that I would able to meet you on Monday afternoon. I would be grateful if you could inform me as soon as possible whether that is convenient for you.

๐Ÿ’ฎ Vocabulary Tip

When talking about statistics we say that figures reach a peak of or peak at: The number of viewers reached a peak of 3.8 million / peaked at 3.8 million in May. The opposite of a peak is a low. The word trough also has this meaning, but is usually used together with the word peak: The number of viewers fell to a low of only 1.1 million in August. The figure has its peaks and troughs.
