1๏ธโƒฃ Using any for two, instead of either :

โŒ Don't say: Any of these two books is good.

โœ… Say: Either of these two books is good.

โš ๏ธ "Either" means one or the other of two, "any" means one of three or more: Any of these books will do.

ใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐ

2๏ธโƒฃ Using a double negative.

โŒ Don't say: She says she's not afraid of nobody.

โœ… Say: She says she's not afraid of anybody.

Or: She says she's afraid of nobody.

โš ๏ธ In English two negatives are equal to an affirmative statement. You should avoid using two negative words in the same clause. When "not" is used, we change:

๐Ÿ“ none to any,
๐Ÿ“ nothing to anything,
๐Ÿ“ nobody to anybody,
๐Ÿ“ no one to anyone,
๐Ÿ“ nowhere to anywhere,
๐Ÿ“ neither ... nor to either ... or.

โ€œTOโ€ AFTER โ€œARRIVEโ€

Donโ€™t say: We arrived to the station.
Donโ€™t say: When will you arrive to Rome?

The correct sentences are:

โ—พ๏ธWe arrived at the station.
โ—พ๏ธWe got to the station.(more informal)
โ—พ๏ธWhen will you arrive in Rome?

โ€œGet toโ€ is an informal way to say โ€œarriveโ€โ€ฆ but donโ€™t use โ€œtoโ€ with the previous exceptions:

โ—พ๏ธI got home at midnight.
โ—พ๏ธWhat time did you get there?

1๏ธโƒฃ The ordinal numeral misplaced.

โŒ Don't say:- I've read the two first chapters.

โœ… Say: - I've read the first two chapters.

โš ๏ธ Place ordinal numerals before cardinal numerals. There can't be two first chapters, only one. Similarly, we must say: The last two (three, etc.), and not The two (three, etc.) last.

ใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐ

2๏ธโƒฃ Enough, when used as an Adverb, is preceded by a positive degree Adjective or Adverb.

โœ… Say: - He is great enough to pardon you.

ใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐ

Two negatives cancel each other. Hence two negatives should not be used in the same sentence unless we make an affirmation.

โŒ Don't say: - I have not got none.

โœ… Say: - I have not got any.

ใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐใ€ฐ
Capable of + -ing.

โŒ Don't say: - They're quite capable to do that.

โœ… Say: They're quite capable of doing that.

โš ๏ธ Note: Also incapable of; to + the infinitive follows able or unable: He is unable to do anything.

Between you and me

๐Ÿ”บ A common mistake in spoken English is to say โ€˜between you and Iโ€™, as in this sentence:

โŒ Don't say: Itโ€™s a tiny bit boring, between you and I.

โœ… Say: Itโ€™s a tiny bit boring, between you and me.

๐Ÿ”บ In standard English, itโ€™s grammatically correct to say โ€˜between you and meโ€™ and incorrect to say โ€˜between you and Iโ€™.

๐Ÿ”บ The reason for this is that a preposition such as between should be followed by an objective pronoun (such as me, him, her, and us) rather than a subjective pronoun (such as I, he, she, and we).

Remember: the correct expression is โ€˜between you and meโ€™
