#Idiom Practice
Many English learners dream of understanding and using idioms effortlessly. However, this is not that simple, as often the meaning is not crystal clear. You will probably know the individual words used, but this may not help.
Always check them with a good dictionary to understand the meaning, and then try to imagine a life situation in which you can use them.

Money Idioms
Скудный словарный запас мешает тем, кто хочет говорить естественно и понимать носителей языка. Именно поэтому сегодня давайте положим в вашу копилку знаний несколько ценных английских идиом, так или иначе связанных с деньгами.

have plenty of money
live in the lap of luxury = купаться/жить в роскоши
be well off (or well heeled) = процветать, быть богатым
go from rags to riches = разбогатеть с нуля

have little money
live on a shoestring = жить со скудными средствами
be in the red = в долгах как в шелках
make ends meet = еле сводить концы с концами

money spending
spend money like water = сорить деньгами
tighten your belts = затянуть пояса
save for a rainy day = отложить на черный день

money making
make a killing = сорвать куш
a money spinner = прибыльное дело
work for peanuts = работать за гроши
make a small fortune = заработать кругленькую сумму

costs
pay through the nose = заплатить с лихвой, дорого

🌟Kick up one's heels: be relaxed and enjoy yourself.
🌟(out) on the town: visiting restaurants, clubs, theatres, etc. for entertainment, especially at night (How about going out on the town tonight?)
🌟Have a night on the tiles (Br, inf.): to stay out late enjoying yourself.

🌟 Be on the campaign trail – actively campaigning for votes: The senator has been on the campaign trail for weeks, visiting small towns and cities across the state to connect with voters and discuss her policies.
🌟 Throw one’s hat into the ring – (regarding elections) to announce one's candidacy for an election: She finally decided to throw her hat in the ring and run for mayor.
🌟 Hit the ground running – (regarding elections) to begin an election campaign with energy and enthusiasm.
🌟 Give a stump speech - a standard speech given by a candidate during their campaign, often repeated at different events: During the rally, she gave her usual stump speech about economic reform.
🌟 Vote a split ticket - vote for candidates from different political parties for different offices in the same election: He often votes a split ticket, choosing the best candidate regardless of party.

🐶Dog-Related Idioms:

🟠 Let sleeping dogs lie - avoid mentioning a subject or something that happened in the past, in order to avoid any problems or arguments: "I know you’re upset, but it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie and not bring it up again."
🟠 Every dog has its day - everyone has good luck or success at some point in their life: Don’t worry, every dog has its day—you’ll get your opportunity.
🟠 Be barking up the wrong tree - have the wrong idea about how to get or achieve sth: You're barking up the wrong tree if you're expecting us to lend you any money.
🟠 Throw someone a bone - give someone a small concession or favor, often just to keep them happy: My boss knew I was upset about not getting the promotion, so she threw me a bone by letting me lead the next big project.
🟠 Be like a dog with a bone - very determined and refusing to give up: When she sensed a good story she was like a dog with a bone.

🔘Be a stepping stone - a temporary job or position that leads to a more important one: "This job is just a stepping stone to my dream career."
