RT @SpencerGuard: The underground is a powerful resource for any urban defender. Kyiv (& many #Ukraine cities) has extensive underground networks. #Kyiv should be using these for #urbanwarfare. Tunnels are excellent to escape bombardments, store weapons/supplies, to surprise attack enemy forces. https://twitter.com/SpencerGuard/status/1499929114634899462/photo/1

RT @SpencerGuard: On my way back from Ukraine now. At a loss for words in all that I saw studying the Battle of Kyiv. We visited Bucha, Irpin, Moshchun, Brovary, Skybyn, Demydiv, Ivankiv and many other sites. Speaking to commanders, fighters that defended the city. #Ukraine #urbanwarfare https://twitter.com/SpencerGuard/status/1536561643886465026/photo/1

From a good thread on what @amnesty got wrong in their now infamous article
Personal comment: IHL includes terms such as military necessity and feasibility.
Also, the war in Ukraine is of a different type, scale and intensity than anything we have seen in Europe since '45.

@marcgarlasco:
Ukraine can place forces in areas they are defending - especially in #urbanwarfare. There is no requirement to stand shoulder to shoulder in a field - this isn’t the 19th century. Ukraine still has an OBLIGATION to protect civilians - but they are taking steps to do so like 2/
