RT @deaidua: Small update regarding the German IAAD initiative which aims to strengthen the Ukrainian air defence. Raytheon announced that the NSPA had contracted them for the delivery of PAC-2 GEM-T missiles worth $478 million to Germany as a replacement for 100 missiles recently given to #Ukraine.

With the now given figure, we can actually see that most of the funds contributed by the Netherlands and Denmark are still not allocated for a specific use case.

The German share of the procurement of 100 PAC-2 GEM-T missiles is €200 million. The Norwegian share is €125 million. This alone amounts to ~$355 million, leaving a remaining ~$123 million difference, which will be covered by the commitments of the Netherlands (€150 million total) and Denmark (~€134 million total).

If we now do the maths, of the total of ~€284 million that both countries have contributed, ~€171.2 million remains after paying their share for the purchase of Patriot missiles. Together with the €200 million from Belgium and the remaining ~€51 million from Norway, this still leaves ~€422.2 million unused which must be allocated for the procurement of air defence systems, radars, ammunition and similar equipment for Ukraine.

Therefore, of the total funding pledged to date by Belgium, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Canada, ~47% has been utilised or bound for a specific use case.

If we assume (no public proof yet) that Denmark and the Netherlands each pay half of the remaining ~$123 million, the list of commitments now looks like this.

Equipment contribution ⬇️
Germany → 1 Patriot fire unit
Italy → 1 SAMP/T fire unit
Lithuania → 6 AMBER-1800 air surveillance radars
Belgium → ?
France → ?
Great Britain → ?
Romania → ?
Spain → ? (likely the few Patriot missiles announced earlier)
USA → ?

Financial contribution ⬇️
Norway → ~€262 million
—— €125 million from the Norwegian funds used for the procurement of Patriot missiles from German stocks
—— €86 million from the Norwegian funds used to co-finance the next delivery of an IRIS-T SLM fire unit to Ukraine
Belgium → €200 million
Netherlands → €150 million
—— ~€56 million from the Dutch funds used for the procurement of Patriot missiles from German stocks
Denmark → €134 million
—— ~€56 million from the Danish funds used for the procurement of Patriot missiles from German stocks
Canada → ~€52 million
—— Canada's funds were fully utilized to buy IRIS-T SL(?) missiles

Please be aware though that the figures may not be 100% correct, as different countries have pledged in different currencies and, for example, the value of the Patriot missiles and the payment for them is given in different currencies. Therefore, I often had to convert, round down and up. So it may vary slightly, but basically the calculation and listing should be correct.

Looking at the big text above... might not be a small update, sorry 😅!

RT @AlexKokcharov: In #Russia, more than 95% of Ukrainian prisoners of war held in Russian captivity are subjected to torture, which constitutes a war crime.

That’s according to the Head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in #Ukraine, Danielle Bell.

As the Russians slowly but surely redeploy forces to seal off the breach in their border and attempt to push the Ukrainians back into #Ukraine, it is worth pondering the options the Ukrainians might have once they reach their limit of exploitation. 1/20 🧵🇺🇦

RT @deaidua: Unbelievable. According to FAZ research, Germany's Minister of Finance, with the support of the Chancellor, ordered a freeze on additional military aid to #Ukraine. No money for the next few years; only aid that has already been announced is allowed to be financed and delivered.

In a letter obtained by the FAZ, Germany's Finance Minister Christian Lindner describes that the Ukraine aid is to be financed via the $50 billion package recently agreed by the G7, which is covered by the interest on frozen Russian assets. This is (unfortunately) not the first time we have heard about this.

One source reports that, for example, an available IRIS-T fire unit could not be financed recently because the lockdown was already in effect. Diehl Defence was able to offer a fire unit immediately after the devastating Russian bomb attack on a children's hos...

RT @deaidua: Important: A second update on the planned German military assistance to #Ukraine in 2025 and the following years. After receiving additional info from a spokesperson for the German Ministry of Finance, I must correct myself and apologise to you.

In earlier tweets (I have now deleted them to not further spread misinfo) I gave the impression that from 2025 all the bilateral military assistance would be provided via the G7 loan totalling as much as €50 billion, which will be financed by the interest from the frozen Russian assets.

Following the clarification from the Ministry of Finance after my enquiry, I can now say that I was wrong and that the €4 billion currently earmarked for military assistance will come from our own budget and that they plan to use the G7 loan “only” for additional military assistance.

In other words, Germany will continue to pay for its bilateral assistance itself! Of course, this does not change the fact that, at least as things stand right now, €3 billion less will be invested in Ukraine's defence next year than in 2024.

However, as we all know, and I previously reported, the parliament still needs to look over the draft budget, may well negotiate and add a couple of billion euros in military assistance, just as they did in 2023 for the 2024 budget.

However, if no additional money is approved by parliament, it remains the case that Ukraine doesn't get additional (not yet announced) military equipment without the G7 loan or a different country financing German-made equipment, as the entire budget has already been bound for next year.

Interestingly, I was told that €4 billion had also been earmarked in the budget for 2026. The FAZ report, on the other hand, spoke of €3 billion for 2026.

Material that has already been announced by the German government will continue to be delivered. So the situation is nowhere near as bad as I understood it to be and passed on to you.

I can only apologise once again at this point. Reporting misinfo to you is, of course, not my ambition.

However, because I still try to obtain the relevant information behind the scenes and that I apologise publicly, I believe that this shows that there was no malicious intent behind it and that I “only” misinterpreted the publicly available information.

Thank you for your attention and sorry once again.
