#bftp9am - TAN KAI SOW JOINED SOUTH CHINA IN SEPT 1951

Earlier, Tan Kai Sow was one of the seven players from Singapore to play for Kitchee SC from November 1950 - January 1951 in the Hong Kong First Division.

Months later in September 1951, he signed for South China, another Hong Kong club.

Fresh update on relevant 2018 blog posts which included stats of those 7 players' short stint in the "Fragrant Harbour".

SOMETHING MUST BE RIGHT FOR ALBIREX NIIGATA (SINGAPORE)?

There must be something that made things click for Albirex Niigata (Singapore) after retaining the Singapore Premier League (SPL) title.

After all, the Yuhua-based team will start every season with largely a new squad, as compared to some other SPL sides who might have retained a certain number of players to ensure stability in their roster.

Furthermore, the White Swans have also been a source for other SPL clubs to fill up their import quota with the likes of Kenji Arai in the early days till the Kyoga Nakamura - a current mainstay in Tampines Rovers.

"If you aim for mediocrity, you will get mediocre results." is probably best summarized by the club's long-serving General Manager Koh Mui Tee back in 2017 after retaining the S.League title.

#bftp9am - HARD WORK AND DESIRE - SUCCESS FORMULA FOR ALBIREX?

For those who followed the scene long enough will remember the early days of Albirex Niigata FC Singapore when they had their down time.

It was only after 2015 when they won the League Cup and things have gone upward trajectory since.

Did a blog post back in 2016 after they "sapu" all the titles ➑️ https://www.bolasepako.com/2016/11/after-thirteenth-years-white-swans.html

And those words in the attached graphic which was extracted from the mentioned blog post should make us all ponder and ask why and how.

Two events in recent days prompted me to jot this note - the Singapore Cup and Tampines Rovers failed to qualify for the AFC Cup.

The premier knockout tournament will see the nine teams from the Singapore Premier League (SPL) split into two groups with 5 teams in Group A and the rest in Group B.

In the meantime, Tampines Rovers found themselves being denied a spot in the continental tournament which they would easily qualify to the knock-out stages in the past when they were beaten 3-2 by Phnom Penh Crown of Cambodia in the qualifying play-off.

Ironically, Phnom Penh Crown was one of the many regional invitees in the past to play in the Singapore Cup competition.

The above-mentioned tournament, at one point, was dubbed as the "Asean Friendship Invitational" because of the participation of club sides from the neighbouring countries.

Back in 2017, I blogged ( https://www.bolasepako.com/2017/05/how-singapore-cup-served-as-platform.html ) "𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘚π˜ͺ𝘯𝘨𝘒𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘊𝘢𝘱 𝘣𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘧π˜ͺ𝘡𝘡𝘦π˜₯ 𝘈𝘴𝘦𝘒𝘯 𝘀𝘭𝘢𝘣𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘡 𝘚π˜ͺ𝘯𝘨𝘒𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘦'𝘴"..

After all, past regional participatants of Singapore Cup like Ceres Negros of the Philippines and Kitchee of Hong Kong went on to perform well in continental tournaments.

While at that point, Cambodian sides like Phnom Penh Crown had yet to muster up to pose a threat to challenge for the Singapore Cup, things seems to have change in recent years.

The came from behind victory by the Red Singha over the Stags days ago at Jalan Besar Stadium had further cemented the fact things had changed.

Something, we, Singapore fans, are numb to it already.
