Speaking Part 3
Unlike Speaking Part 1, where you can talk more freely, and questions are personal and more involving, in Part 3, you should sound different and more formal. Here you have the best opportunity to show a range of high-level vocab.

Try to adapt to a more serious tone, since you are often asked more serious questions. Excessive emotions may seem inappropriate here.

Always use a variety of linking words, while there is no need to use the formal ones (hence, thus, furthermore, etc.)
possible linking words: what’s more, however, though, as I said before, I mean, in other words, actually, as a matter of fact, to make a long story short and many others.

Try to avoid any overgeneralizations. This can be achieved in many ways, but the easiest ways are to use modal verbs (might, can) and connecting words (apparently, largely, for many, in most cases, etc.)
The impact of globalization is largely beneficial to companies, but small businesses may lose in competition with large chains, such as McDonald’s or Zara.

Model answers:
Do you think there were more family celebrations in the past than now?
That’s a tricky question. I guess the answer isn’t on the surface. It’s difficult to compare today just because family traditions seem to be less strong than ever before. I mean people are much much busier now and often prioritize professional success. What’s more, in the past, family members lived together or close each other, while now they can live in the different parts of the glove.

Do people in your country often hold parties?
It definitely depends on an individual. For many, this is a good chance to hang out with the whole family or have fun with friends, so they often throw parties. In addition, this is a great opportunity for many to escape the daily grind, while others are not so sociable and easy-going, or this pastime is not in their nature. They can also live away from their relatives and friends at the moment. So it really depends on a person and the present situation

#Vocabulary for IELTS
Verbs of prediction
Сегодня расскажу о полезных глаголах, которые вы легко можете использовать для описания любых изменений в будущем. Они полезны для описания pie charts, карт и любых изменений в будущем.
Самые популярные из них to predict, forecast, project, estimate, expect and anticipate.
Используются они в пассивном залоге:
👉The number of people working online is expected to double by 2030.
👉It is forecast the sale of automated robots rise by 30% in 2027.
👉Fossil fuels are estimated to experience a significant drop in 2030.
Часть из них легко трансформируется в существительные prediction, projection, forecast, estimate – прогноз, оценка (e.g. according to projections), в прилагательные – predicted, expected, projected, estimated – прогнозируемый, ожидаемый, предполагаемый (e.g. expected changes, projected production).
#Grammar
Место обстоятельства в предложении (часть 1)

Обстоятельство (adverbials)— это слово или группа слов, указывающие на обстоятельства действия. Они отвечают на вопросы: where? when? why? how? и др. Примеры: at last, obviously, slowly, at the end, by my standards и многие другие.

В предложении у adverbials три основных позиции – в начале, середине или конце.
Сегодня рассмотрим конечную позицию. Итак, в конце предложения идут:

🔸Обстоятельства образа действия (how?), места (where?) и времени (when?)
I write very slowly. NOT⛔️ I very slowly write.
I live nearby so we’ll be there soon.

🔸Обстоятельства частоты действия (how often?). Фразы обычно идут конце предложения (once in a while, time after time, etc), а также некоторые наречия в одно слово (sometimes, occasionally, regularly).
We have a test every couple of weeks.
I go there regularly.

🚫Типичная ошибка: поставить наречие между глаголом (делать) и дополнением (что/кого)
She did the work too quickly.
⛔️She did too quickly the work.
I’m sure I’ll meet her someday.
⛔️I’m sure I’ll meet someday her.

Что делать, если этих обстоятельств несколько? что за чем:
каким образом how? + место where? +
время when?
We didn’t sleep well on those airbeds last night.

Однако, бывают случаи, когда обстоятельство места дополняет значение глагола. В этом случае, оно идет сразу после глагола. Пример:
I came here on foot. NOT ⛔️I came on foot here.

Если глаголов два, обстоятельство образа действия (how?) идет или перед первым глаголом, или после второго, в зависимости от вложенного смысла.
I quickly decided to take the job.
She made the effort to drive carefully

#Idiom Practice
Many English learners dream of understanding and using idioms effortlessly. However, this is not that simple, as often the meaning is not crystal clear. You will probably know the individual words used, but this may not help.
Always check them with a good dictionary to understand the meaning, and then try to imagine a life situation in which you can use them.

💪Let’s practice some common idioms.

#Speaking Part 2
Reading model answers is a very powerful way to get the best possible band score when you are preparing for the IELTS speaking module.
Even if your English is not perfect, you can improve your IELTS score by using the vocabulary and grammatical structures from such models and then create your own answers based on them.

Before you start reading the model, think about:
👉how you can answer it
👉what expressions you may use
👉what adjectives you can add (e.g. memorable, moving)
👉how you can use different tenses or structures here (e.g. Past Simple, Present Perfect, Gerund).

Now read the model and practice speaking your own story. Include some of the expressions in your story.
Describe your favorite TV Series

To be honest, I’m kind of a couch potato, so I watch a multitude of TV series. Off the top of my head, I’d say the most captivating TV series recently I took up watching is “Friends” - one of the most popular television shows of all time.

Friends is an American television sitcom originally aired on NBC from 1994 to 2004, lasting ten seasons. This sitcom has a strong cast, involving both experienced actors and novices in the field of entertainment. By and large, it won’t fail to live up to viewers’ expectations from the first episode.

The series are centered on six friends, who are connected with each other by being roommates, neighbors and old high school friends and they all find themselves living in the same apartment block. They all have their own story and battle with tough jobs, complicated relationships and life in the big city. As the title suggests, each episode is packed with hilarious jokes and conversational exchanges between friends.

What strikes me most about this series is the strong bond between friends. Despite many ups and downs in life, they won’t hesitate to go the extra mile to get over difficulties. It is a TV series worth watching, particularly for those fans of comedy and reality TV. Despite its age, it is still as fantastic as ever and very addictive and will be watched for many years yet.
I noticed that some people didn’t get the idiom ‘and the rest is history’. It’s usually used to say that everyone knows the rest of a story you have been telling, so you do not need to continue telling this story.
e.g. Your father and I met and fell in love when we were students, and the rest is history.
#Writing
How much to write?
Should I write as much as possible on the IELTS test?
Will the longer answer get a higher score?
The answer to both questions is no.
When an IELTS examiner evaluates your written work, it does not compare to any other work. Instead, he reads each individual answer, evaluates it using very clear criteria, and awards a band score. There is no ranking or comparing, and there is no limit to the number of band 6 or 7.
One important problem with writing "as much as possible" in IELTS is that the instructions for each writing assignment tell you how much time you should spend on the assignment and how many words you should write. If you are giving a very long answer, then most likely you will need more than the allotted time and you may also make more mistakes in some important areas. For example, your ideas may be repetitive and inconsistent, and most likely you will not have enough time to check your answer. More importantly if you spend more than 20 minutes on Writing Task 1, you will not have the full 40 mins to produce a well-organized and complete answer to Writing Task 2, which is worth double the marks of WT1.

The best advice for a written IELTS test is to follow all instructions in the question. They tell you:
• Write ‘at least 150 words for assignment 1
• Write 'at least 250 words for assignment 2.

Use the time you are given for each writing task to:
1) Plan and organize your ideas (making sure they are relevant to the task)
2) Write your answer
3) Check your answer for accuracy and to make sure you are not repeating the same ideas or the same vocabulary and structures.

Journey/trip/travel
Three similar words often misused by students.
👉a journey is the period of travel between two places, especially over a long distance (bus/train journey, return journey)
use go on or make a journey (not do)
Few people have made this grueling journey to the North Pole.

👉a trip is a return journey, especially for a short visit, an act of travelling from one place to another, and usually back again (a business trip, a day trip)
use go on, make or take a trip
