I wanna a game where we're just being a tenant of these living quarters of Stray. No sewers, no running, just a cozy life in a neon dystopia.

Can you imagine Horizon Zero Dawn, made by a tiny studio under XBox and told by a Halo writer?

I finally reached the long-forgotten ReCore, which runs well on basically anything and require no MS account.

It goes for like $3 on every major sale and is very minimalistic by modern standards. It's hard to believe that it has been released later than The Witcher 3 and only a year before HZD.

And you can find the artbook here: https://archive.org/details/the-art-of-re-core/

Midnight Gospel, but a videogame: you play golf on a dead Earth and listen to the podcast from Mars, where other wealthy people live now.

This may sound stupid, but because of the yellow tint in The Witcher 3, I stopped liking its visuals this time. AI ruined sepia for me, all yellow images cause a pure disgust.

Mirror's Edge art style was an accident: the company was originally making a typical UE3 game with yellow filter, but players got horrible motion sickness.

After a few tries they discovered that simplified colors and geometry can significantly improve the preserved stability and eliminate motion sickness.

Stepped into a pit of color grading my monitor (without any equipment by the way). I just was like: yeah, I'll figure it out.

Kind reminder that color representation is a context-based thing and so a human can't and should never do colors outside of their context.

Anyway, I'm happy with how it is now, but can't recommend it to anyone. And the solution is to use RTNGS graded file + NOVIDEO_SRGB, as usual.

And to continue "characters art direction" discussion, here's the notable example:

This is Elex II and Elex. The wife of the main character looks so strikingly different in the second one (above) and their overall human rendering and modelling system was simply the worst part of the whole sequel.

The original was way too stylized, but it definitely stood out. Their skin shader was so much better and consistent. The new one is glossy, like they are all made of plastic.

Also, both games are one of a kind RPGs with unmatched freedom. You can pick factions to only become a spy inside for a totally different faction or join the underground thieves guild (you can easily miss). A lot of dialogues depend on your current squad, like my ex-wife forced a guard to give me back the bribe TWICE, since she's his boss.
