Srinagar, May 03 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Monday wished journalists on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, saying that media plays a catalytic role in a country's development.

The official twitter handle of the Office of J&K LG, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) quoted LG as saying that the media acts as a strong bridge between the government and people.

“On the occasion of ‘World Press Freedom Day’, I extend my warm wishes to the journalists fraternity. The media plays a catalytic role in a country's development & acts as a strong bridge between the Government & People.

He also appreciated the journalists for the role played by them in the challenging time of COVID-19.

Srinagar, May 11 (GNS): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced “special pension for life” in favour senior citizens who have lost only earning member of the family to covid-19.

In a series of tweets, the Lieutenant Governor also announced government’s decision to provide Rs 1000 per month to all registered construction workers, ponywalas, palkiwalas and pithuwalas for the next two months.

“The J&K Government has taken several measures to help those who unfortunately lost their loved ones to #COVID19. Senior citizens who have lost only earning member of the family will be provided special pension for life,” reads a tweet as per GNS.

“Children, who have lost their parents to #COVID19 pandemic will be provided with special scholarship by the government,” he said, adding, “Many of our near and dear ones have left us untimely due to #COVID19. The Government has decided to reach out to each and every such family and they will be provided with financial assistance for self employment.”

At a time when this global pandemic has rendered daily workers jobless, the Government has decided to provide Rs 1000 per month to all registered construction workers, ponywalas, palkiwalas, pithuwalas for the next two months, he said.

“The Government has directed all concerned officers to ensure the supply of ration to all ration card holders on priority.

Installments of social welfare schemes like old-age pension, Laadli Beti etc and PMAY, MGNREGA and other welfare schemes will be released immediately.”

In these challenging times, the Old-Age Homes, Orphanages will be extended all the support from the government including rations etc, he said.

“Our biggest priority is to defeat this pandemic. I urge all of you to follow Covid appropriate behaviour and get vaccinated. We will soon prevail together over this pandemic,” he added. (GNS)

Srinagar, May 20 (GNS): Office of Lieutenant Governor on Wednesday night notified, via Twitter, into recoveries of over two lac Covid-19 infected patients up to May 19, 2021 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Preceded by “#JammuAndKashmir will win the fight against #COVID19”, the tweet read “202039 Covid Positive patients defeat the virus and recovered till May 19th, 2021.” An illustrated image appended to tweet displayed that 2847780 Covid vaccine doses were administered up to the same period besides it showing that 4338 recoveries being recorded in last twenty-four hours (May 18 - May 19).

In a successive tweet, the office informed of a 120-year-old woman Dholi Devi from Udhumpur who ‘took her first dose of the Covid Vaccine’.

“120 years old, a lady Dholi Devi from remote area of Udhampur District took her 1st dose of #CovidVaccine”, reads the tweet. An appended representational picture flaunting the old lady with few health-care workers reads; “120 years old, Dholi Devi, who hails from a remote village Ghar Katiyas of Sub Division Drudu, Udhumpur District turn upto vaccination camp to get first shot of #CovidVaccination.”

“We are very happy to get ‘our eldest member of family vaccinated against the Covid disease”, quoting a family member, the tweet concluded. (GNS)
