بابلیان عقیده داشتند که زمین به شکل بشقاب مسطحی است که رودی از آب شوری (خلیج فارس) آن را احاطه کرده است.

ـ تغییر شکل خلیج فارس بعد از آخرین عصر بخبندان در ۱۸هزار سال پیش وقتی که سطح دریاها ۱۳۰ متر پایین تر بود. از اون زمان تا ۶هزار سال پیش یخهای ذوب شده در کانادا و اسکاندیناوی باعث بالا اومدن سطح دریاها شدند و بعدا شکل خلیج تقریبا ثابت مونده.
