І 2 квітня 2025 року ізраїльська влада депортувала 52-річну Юлію Матвєєву, відому як ігуменя Єфросинія, яка керувала церквою Грецької православної патріархії в Єрусалимі. Причиною стали її антисемітські висловлювання в інтерв’ю російському телеканалу “Спас”.

Вона стверджувала, що Ізраїль інсценував напад 7 жовтня 2024 року, щоб відвернути увагу від судових проблем прем’єр-міністра Біньяміна Нетаньяху, та звинуватила США і Ізраїль у співпраці з ХАМАС. Особливе обурення викликали її слова про те, що правляча коаліція нібито прагне збудувати Третій Храм на місці мечеті Аль-Акса, і що в Ізраїль уже завезли «червоних корів», вирощених американцями, аби спалити їх на Масличній горі в честь приходу Месії.

Після цих заяв Управління з питань реєстрації населення та імміграції, діючи через відділ у справах релігійних громад МВС Ізраїлю, звернулося до Грецької православної патріархії, яка офіційно відмежувалася від монахині.

Матвєєвій скасували візу, звільнили з церковного поста, викликали на слухання в Єрусалимі та видали наказ про депортацію. Вона подала апеляцію, проте в липні 2024 року суд її відхилив. Після цього Єфросинія зникла з поля зору влади, і лише в лютому 2025 року її знайшли в поселенні Евен-Сапір під Єрусалимом, затримали й помістили до ізолятора «Гівон».

Там вона намагалася отримати статус біженки, стверджуючи, що боїться повертатися в росію, однак її прохання було відхилено, і Матвєєву депортували.

The forgotten genocide of the Germans of the Volga region

Imagine: thousands of families who lived for three centuries on the land that was promised to them as a safe haven. They turned wild fields into fertile villages, preserved their language, faith, and traditions. And then, bam! In a two-paragraph order, they were called "traitors" and loaded onto lorries. Without the right to return. No graves. No memory.

1763 - Catherine II issues a manifesto: the Germans are promised land, faith, self-government, and 30 years without taxes.

- By the 1800s, more than 200,000 German colonists settled in the Volga region.

- 1924 - The Volga German Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was established with its capital in Engels (formerly Pokrovsk).
- German-language newspapers were published, schools, colleges, and theatres were opened.

They received privileges: land, religious freedom, and tax exemptions. But already at the end of the nineteenth century, the empire began to curtail this "hospitality," and Stalin ended it with deportation.

28 August 1941 is a black date.
Under Stalin's signature, about 367,000 people were deported to Siberia, Kazakhstan, and Altai under the pretext of "the threat of collaboration with the Nazis".

And the Germans went in freight cars without heating and water, to camps with forced labour, where not everyone survived. They also completely lost their language, autonomy, and culture

In fact, it was a deliberate policy of extermination.

Between 1941 and 1948, a third of the deportees died, and their autonomous republic was wiped off the map. The German language was banned. Returning home was impossible.

Today it is called ethnocide.

Autonomy was eliminated.

Schools, newspapers, and worship in German are banned.

Millions of lives were broken because of ethnicity - without trial, without evidence.

In the postwar years, some Germans were not rehabilitated, unlike other deported peoples.

Most of their descendants moved to Germany after the collapse of the USSR, leaving the lands where they had lived for over 250 years.

In the 1950s, even correspondence in German was persecuted as "anti-Soviet".

The Soviet authorities used the term "fascists" to refer to all ethnic Germans, regardless of their beliefs.

Men between the ages of 15 and 65 were sent to the "trudarmiya" (labour army), a forced labour battalion.
The conditions were worse than in regular Gulag camps: there was a lack of food, warm clothing, and medical care. The mortality rate was 15-30% in the early years. The Trudarmyans built mines in Donbas, hydroelectric power stations, logged in Siberia, and worked in the steel industry in the Urals.

Between 1945 and 1955, Germans were not allowed to change their place of residence without the permission of the NKVD. In 1948, a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR enshrined their "lifelong special resettlement fate", which effectively meant the status of people without rights.

Only in 1955 was the ban on return formally lifted, but no real rehabilitation took place.

The ASSR of Volga Germans (1924-1941) had the official status of autonomy within the RSFSR, with its own authorities, but its liquidation took place immediately after the outbreak of war with Germany, without formal discussion.

Russia has not yet recognised deportation as a crime.

The fates of the Germans of the Volga region and Ukrainians repressed by the Soviet authorities are quite similar

Both peoples became "undesirable" in the eyes of the empire: the Germans of the Volga region because of their ethnic origin, even despite their loyalty, and Ukrainians because of their desire for independence, culture, and identity.

Germans were deported in 1941 - 367,000 people in two months - Ukrainians were deported in waves from the 1920s to the 1950s - hundreds of thousands were taken to Siberia and Kazakhstan.

German language - banned in schools, newspapers, churches = Ukrainian also, under pressure of Russification, repression of the intelligentsia (Executed Renaissance).

Germans were sent to labour battalions without documents, Ukrainians to Gulag camps, especially for "counter-revolutionary activities".

The Germans of the Volga region have not yet been recognised as victims of genocide, and most Ukrainians, especially those from Western Ukraine, have been partially rehabilitated only formally.

And lastly. Here is the list of peoples deported during the Soviet era: Volga Germans, Chechens, Ingush, Crimean Tatars, Karachay, Balkars, Kalmyks, Meskhetian Turks, Koreans, Greeks, Bulgarians, Armenians, Azerbaijanis, Georgians, Kurds, Poles, Latvians, Estonians, Lithuanians, Ukrainians, Belarusians, and Ingrian Finns.

There are no Russians here. But these lands were inhabited by Russians

Here is a list of the deported peoples of the USSR with the wording in the given format: "Russians from..."

Russians were brought to the lands of the Ingush from the North Caucasus, Voronezh and Saratov regions of the RSFSR.

Russians from Rostov, Astrakhan, and Kursk regions were brought to Chechen lands.

Russians from Central Russia (Tula and Kaluga regions), as well as demobilised soldiers, were brought to the lands of the Crimean Tatars.

Russians from the Tambov, Voronezh, Kursk, and Penza regions settled in the lands of the Volga Germans.

Russians and Ossetians from the neighbouring regions of the Caucasus settled on the lands of the Karachay people.

Russians were brought to the lands of the Balkars from the Stavropol Territory and central regions of Russia.

Russians from the Volgograd region and the Lower Volga region were brought to the lands of the Kalmyks (after the liquidation of the Kalmyk Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic).The lands of the Meskhetian Turks (southern Georgia) were inhabited by Georgians and Russians from the interior of the USSR.

In the lands of the Ingrian Finns (Leningrad Oblast), Russians from the Pskov and Novgorod Oblasts were settled.

Russians and Ukrainians from Siberia and the central regions were brought to the lands of the Koreans (Far East).

Pryazovia and Crimea were settled by Russians

The Crimea and Odesa region were also settled by Russians

Russians from Leningrad, Smolensk, and Yaroslavl regions were brought to the land of Lithuanians.

Russians from Pskov, Tver, and Vologda regions were brought to Latvian lands.

Russians from the Leningrad and Arkhangelsk regions were settled on Estonian lands.

Ukrainian lands, especially in western Ukraine, were settled by Russians from Bryansk, Orel, Kursk, and Voronezh regions, as well as employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs/NKVD.

Russians from neighbouring regions of Russia - Pskov and Smolensk - were brought to Western Belarus.

Military personnel and special migrants from central Russia were deployed on the lands of Armenians, Azerbaijanis and Georgians (border areas).

Morality. All of these deportations were not "accidental security steps" but a systemic imperial policy.

The Soviet Union, and today Russia as its successor, deliberately exterminated or displaced peoples who did not fit the template of a "proper Soviet citizen". And then they settled their lands with those who were supposed to serve as the core of the new loyalty - Russians from the interior.

And kill me, but I do not understand the confidence or hope that Russians will change or have changed in 2025. What kind of dialogue can we talk about with someone who has been creating concentration camps on the territory of other countries since 2014?
