Agent Vanya: The Finnish Blow to the Chekist

Preamble. Not long ago, the local branches of Finland’s Social Democratic Party (SDP) announced the removal of Lappeenranta resident ivan devyatkin from their list of candidates for municipal and regional elections.

According to a statement by the SDP municipal organization in Lappeenranta, the Lappeenranta Workers’ Association, and the Southeast Finland Social Democrats, devyatkin violated the party’s values by failing to clearly condemn russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine.

The statement further specifies that devyatkin was explicitly informed—most recently on November 15—that SDP requires its candidates to take a clear position on this issue. Major vanya was duly notified. The decision was unanimous, and SDP does not plan to publicly comment further on the matter.

Next. The 34-year-old devyatkin’s position became public knowledge through an Iltasanomat interview published on November 29 (though much earlier signs were already evident, as we’ll discuss). Major vanya declared that closing the eastern border was a violation of human rights and that Finland had essentially become the “51st state of the USA.”

In short, vanya is no simple guy. Not an obvious russian nationalist, but a slightly encrypted one. Then again, people will do just about anything to flee russia and pine for the birch trees, won’t they?

As you can see from his posts and screenshots, vanya—like a true chekist—is less concerned about fitting in as a guest in Finland and more preoccupied with lamenting the supposed “oppression, mistreatment, and murder” (sarcasm) of poor russians in Finland.

And let’s not forget the ultimate offense: Finnish authorities closed the border to russians. For vanya, this was pure fascism. After all, according to russian propaganda, while Finland may be full of NATO-loving gays (in their view), the rights of russians in foreign lands are sacrosanct. Never mind the fact that their own homeland routinely commits genocide in another sovereign country. 👇
