As can be seen, it is still functioning but has sustained damage from a likely RPG hit; the side skirt is partially removed and there is fire/blast damage.

I don't agree this indicate they expect an offensive.

This is just what you do, you prepare defenses around your positions.

Russians have fortified Tokmak. Besides a defense ring made up by various kind of fortifications (red lines), they have doubled the fortifications of all main roads leading into the city (green lines).
