@mttjon @APHClarkson: Regardless of circumstances, one cannot deploy forces to Ukraine without being ready and willing to go to war if it comes down to it.
I can imagine scenarios where European deployments to Ukraine don't inevitably results in war but that would require political will and risk appetite far beyond anything we have seen so far. The willingness to fight would then be the deterrent to keep it from snowballing.

@APHClarkson: The trajectory of the war has been negative for a long time IMO. There have been ample opportunities to correct the course underway, Europe could still do so with sufficient political will, but we haven't so far.
How one sees this depends a lot on how one assesses the balance in the war, and the strengths and challenges of both sides.
Despite their challenges, I think Russia has the upper hand.

RT @ChristopherJM: Leaders from countries that include European states plus Japan, Australia and Canada, said on Saturday that the “initial draft of the 28-point plan includes important elements that will be essential for a just and lasting peace”, in a joint statement following an emergency meeting in Johannesburg.
“We believe therefore that the draft is a basis which will require additional work,” the leaders said. “We reiterate that the implementation of elements relating to the European Union and relating to Nato would need the consent of EU and Nato members respectively.”

Ukraine’s western allies have called for “additional work” on a US-Russia peace plan and for the EU and Nato to be given a say over its contents as they seek to delay the terms being forced on Kyiv.

@mttjon @APHClarkson: This is what European leaders should be discussing and acting on, also in public, for some time now, but I don't see sufficient action, resolve and risk appetite.

@dillonrpayton: Without bringing any real, realistic alternative plans to the table one doesn't get a seat.
One doesn't have to like the Trump admins approach, or in general, but the US is still critical for both Ukraine and European security so we have to deal- and work with them anyhow.

RT @ZelenskyyUa: In the coming days, consultations with our partners will take place on the steps needed to end the war. Our representatives know how to defend Ukraine’s national interests and exactly what must be done to prevent Russia from launching a third invasion, another strike against Ukraine – just as it has repeatedly committed crimes against our people and against other nations in the past.

RT @USN_Submariner: 65 years ago today: The first submarine fully designed & built for ballistic missiles, USS Ethan Allen (SSBN 608), was launched at Electric Boat.
The first-in-class boat was the only submarine to launch an operational ballistic missile with a live nuclear warhead (Frigate Bird).

An effective operation demonstrating what a skilled drone operator is capable of: clearing a building of Russian infantry from the inside without putting an entire unit of our own soldiers at risk.
Thanks to the outstanding team of SOF drone operators for sharing their work — together, we always supported them and will continue to do so on a regular basis.

The Special Operations Forces of Ukraine claim that their operator managed to shoot down a Russian Mil Mi-8 helicopter with an FP-1 long-range OWA-UAV over Russia's Rostov Oblast.
In the footage, the Ukrainian strike drone can be seen approaching the Mil Mi-8 from behind, although no actual impact is visible.
If confirmed, that would constitute the first known case of a Russian aviation asset being downed with a ground-attack UAV.
