🚀 Solana Co-Founder and Matter Labs CEO Debate Blockchain Speed

According to Odaily, a recent exchange on social media platform X has sparked a debate between Solana's co-founder, Toly, and Matter Labs CEO, Alex Gluchowski, regarding the speed of blockchain technologies. Toly asserted that Solana's speed surpasses that of Zero-Knowledge (ZK) systems, attributing this to the absence of limitations on full node capacity. He emphasized that ZK computations are inherently slower than traditional methods, suggesting that Solana's architecture allows for faster processing without the constraints imposed by ZK protocols.

In response, Alex Gluchowski, CEO of Matter Labs, countered Toly's claims by highlighting the efficiency of ZK technology. Gluchowski argued that ZK systems are inherently faster than Solana because they rely on mathematical proofs rather than a network of validators for security. This reliance on mathematics allows ZK systems to operate with just one or a few validators for redundancy, eliminating the need for consensus among thousands of nodes. This fundamental difference, according to Gluchowski, enables ZK systems to achieve greater speed and efficiency compared to Solana's approach.

The discussion underscores the ongoing debate within the blockchain community about the most effective methods for achieving speed and security. While Solana emphasizes scalability through its unique architecture, proponents of ZK technology argue for the benefits of mathematical security and reduced validator requirements. This exchange highlights the diverse approaches within the industry and the continuous evolution of blockchain technologies as developers seek to optimize performance and security.

🚀 Base Network Aims for Speed and Cost Efficiency Amid Decentralization Efforts

According to PANews, Jesse Pollak, the head of Base, recently outlined the network's objectives to achieve rapid speeds, low costs, and high throughput. The goals include a target speed of 200 milliseconds, transaction fees under $0.01, and a throughput of 200 transactions per second. Pollak emphasized the gradual decentralization of the network through the implementation of Vitalik Buterin's phase 1 and 2 plans.

Addressing concerns about the centralization of sequencers, Pollak stated that more sequencer nodes would be introduced in the short to medium term. He highlighted that the primary goal is to achieve CR attributes, such as neutrality and protection against sandwich attacks, rather than solely focusing on sequencer decentralization.

Vitalik Buterin also noted that for Layer 2 solutions, features like fast withdrawals and censorship-resistant channels should take precedence over complete sequencer decentralization.

🚀 Tether Invests $8 Million in Bitcoin Startup to Enhance Stablecoin Payments

According to Cointelegraph, stablecoin leader Tether has spearheaded an $8 million investment round in Bitcoin startup Speed, aiming to advance enterprise stablecoin payments on the Bitcoin layer-2 Lightning Network. Tether emphasized the potential of Speed's architecture to integrate Lightning and stablecoins, facilitating high-scale money transfers with minimal fees, robust compliance, and extensive global reach. Tether's CEO, Paolo Ardoino, remarked that Speed's progress and adoption indicate that Bitcoin-rooted networks are poised for mainstream commerce.

The investment round also saw participation from Ego Death Capital, a Bitcoin ecosystem-focused entity. Speed currently serves over 1.2 million users, including consumers, creators, platforms, and enterprise merchants, through its Speed Wallet and Speed Merchant products, handling over $1.5 billion in annual payment volume. This strategic move aligns with Tether's broader objective to support Bitcoin-centric payment platforms and expand the utility of its Tether (USDT) stablecoin. Ardoino noted, "We back teams building practical infrastructure that reduces friction in payments and increases access to reliable settlement rails."

Tether's investment in Speed is part of a larger strategy, as the stablecoin issuer diversifies its interests across various sectors, including Bitcoin mining, AI, energy, finance, and even sports teams. Tether's substantial profits, primarily derived from interest on US Treasury bills backing USDT, have enabled these investments. The stablecoin boasts a market cap of $186.3 billion, making it the largest in the world. In the first three quarters of 2025, Tether reported profits exceeding $10 billion, following a $13.4 billion profit in 2024, establishing itself as one of the most profitable companies globally on a per-employee basis.

🚀 Study Reveals Tokyo-Based Validators Offer Faster Transactions for Hyperliquid Traders

Glassnode research indicates that Hyperliquid's validator cluster is located in Amazon Web Services' Tokyo region, providing Tokyo traders with approximately 200 milliseconds faster order round-trip times compared to participants from Europe and the United States, according to PANews. This advantage results in better queue positions and transaction quality for those near the infrastructure.

The study shows that the median round-trip time for orders placed from AWS Tokyo nodes to confirmation is approximately 884 milliseconds, with only 5 milliseconds attributed to network transmission and the remainder to server processing time. In contrast, the round-trip time from Virginia's Ashburn node increases to about 1079 milliseconds. Unlike traditional financial markets, which use measures like cable length equalization and speed bumps to eliminate geographical advantages, decentralized markets lack similar safeguards. As institutional capital enters DeFi, a competitive landscape where speed determines transaction priority is emerging.
