๐Ÿš€ Vitalik Buterin Explores GKR Protocol for Enhanced ZK Proofs

According to PANews, Vitalik Buterin has published a new article detailing the use of the Goldreichโ€“Kahanโ€“Rothblum (GKR) protocol to accelerate zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs. The protocol is adapted for a 'batch ร— multi-layer' computational structure, significantly reducing intermediate layer commitments by focusing solely on input and output commitments.

Using the Poseidon2 hash as an example, Buterin explains the recursive proof process centered around sumcheck, offering optimizations such as Gruenโ€™s trick, linear batching, and partial rounds with only cubic first elements. In polynomial commitment scenarios, these can be combined with BaseFold or FRI.

Buterin claims that the actual costs are theoretically 100 times lower than traditional STARK methods, with single-digit level costs achievable. He also cautions about the need to prevent predictability risks within circuits when using the Fiatโ€“Shamir challenge.

๐Ÿš€ Vitalik Buterin Discusses AI and Prediction Markets at ETHShanghai 2025

According to Foresight News, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin spoke at the ETHShanghai 2025 main forum, highlighting the role of prediction markets during the U.S. election. He noted that many participated in predictions through Polymarket, which he views as a success. Buterin emphasized that traditional and social media may struggle to assess the significance of events, whereas prediction markets can quickly reflect reality through price signals, emerging as a new medium of information. These markets are not limited to major events; with AI integration, they can also accurately predict smaller occurrences. The combination of AI and prediction markets is expected to make predictions more mainstream and intelligent.

Buterin also discussed the AI sector, suggesting that blockchain sets the rules while AI can act as a participant. With the rise of AI agents, these entities can independently issue tokens, engage in applications, and governance, opening up experimental opportunities. He urged further exploration of how to empower ecosystem development, stressing that AI should serve as a tool for humans rather than a replacement. Security remains a critical concern, including the hacking risks associated with AI agents. Buterin mentioned the potential of ZK ID (zero-knowledge identity) in preventing AI misuse. ZK ID can help distinguish between humans and bots, supporting developments in low-risk DeFi and other areas while maintaining privacy.

๐Ÿš€ Cryptography's Role in Data Security Discussed by Experts

According to Foresight News, Professor Ian Miers, an expert in security and applied cryptography, recently shared insights on Twitter regarding the role of cryptography in data security. Miers emphasized that cryptography is a subset of the security field rather than a theoretical branch. He cautioned against the centralized storage of highly sensitive data, even when using advanced cryptographic techniques like MPC (Multi-Party Computation) or FHE (Fully Homomorphic Encryption), citing examples such as global AML (Anti-Money Laundering) KYC (Know Your Customer) processes or content moderation strategies.

Vitalik Buterin, a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency community, responded to Miers' comments by highlighting that content itself is often in plaintext. He suggested that anonymous posting combined with blocking features could be achieved through ZK (Zero-Knowledge) proofs, and AI-driven content moderation could utilize ZK proof algorithms with delayed publication.

In the context of encrypted message content moderation, such as chat control, Miers pointed out that neither TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) nor cryptography can securely handle servers viewing all messages. Buterin agreed with this assessment and proposed that client-side scanning could be a compliant method. He suggested that users could opt for local AI maintained by different organizations or choose to disable it entirely, eliminating the need for complex cryptographic solutions.

๐Ÿš€ Ethereum's Fusaka Upgrade Highlights Sharding Technology Advancements

According to PANews, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has emphasized the significance of PeerDAS within Fusaka, describing it as a form of sharding technology. This innovation allows Ethereum to achieve block consensus without requiring individual nodes to examine extremely small portions of data. Utilizing a client-side probabilistic verification mechanism, it effectively resists 51% attacks without relying on validator voting. Sharding has been a goal for Ethereum since 2015, with data availability sampling becoming a target in 2017, which has now been achieved.

However, there are three areas within Fusaka's sharding technology that remain incomplete. Firstly, while Layer 2 networks can handle O(cยฒ) transactions (where c represents node computing power), Layer 1 networks cannot. To benefit Layer 1 scaling, mature zero-knowledge Ethereum virtual machines (ZK-EVMs) are required. Secondly, there is a proposer/builder bottleneck, as builders currently need to access all data to construct entire blocks, necessitating distributed block construction. Thirdly, there is no sharded memory pool, which is currently needed. Despite these challenges, this represents a significant advancement in blockchain design.

Over the next two years, the team plans to refine the PeerDAS mechanism, cautiously expanding its scale while ensuring stability. This will enable Layer 2 network scaling, and once ZK-EVMs mature, it will be used for Layer 1 network gas scaling.

Previously, Ethereum's mainnet successfully activated the Fusaka upgrade, significantly enhancing data processing capabilities.

๐Ÿš€ Quantum Computing's Impact on Cryptocurrency Overstated, Says a16z

a16z Crypto has released an analysis suggesting that concerns about quantum computing threatening cryptocurrencies are often exaggerated. According to PANews, the likelihood of a quantum computer capable of causing real-world disruption emerging before 2030 is very low. The article highlights that mainstream digital signature schemes and zero-knowledge systems like zkSNARKs are not easily susceptible to quantum attacks that follow a 'collect now, decrypt later' model. Prematurely transitioning blockchain systems to quantum-resistant solutions could introduce performance issues, engineering immaturity, and potential security flaws.

a16z further emphasizes that compared to the yet-to-materialize quantum risks, major public blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum currently face more immediate challenges. These include the complexity of protocol upgrades, governance issues, and vulnerabilities in implementation layer code. The firm advises developers to plan quantum-resistant paths based on a reasonable assessment of timeframes rather than rushing into migrations. It also notes that in the foreseeable future, traditional security issues such as code defects, side-channel attacks, and fault injections should take precedence over quantum computing concerns. Resources should be focused on enhancing audits, fuzz testing, and formal verification.
