The Long View, institutional investor, posted on X. Israel has officially introduced its new laser-based defense system, known as 'Iron Beam,' marking a significant shift from traditional ammunition-based defense to energy-based technology. This advanced system, which was deployed for the first time this year, utilizes electricity to create a precise and virtually limitless weapon, costing approximately $3 per laser burst compared to $150,000 for an Iron Dome rocket.
The 'Iron Beam' operates at the speed of light with a range of about 10 kilometers. However, it requires a 'dwell' time on the target, as it functions by setting the missile on fire. The system's effectiveness can be compromised in adverse weather conditions such as heavy rain, dust, or fog.
Similar to Directed Energy Weapons (DEW), the 'Iron Beam' employs a high-intensity laser to deliver concentrated thermal energy to a small area, heating the surface to thousands of degrees Fahrenheit. This can ignite propellant or cause structural failure, making it particularly effective against slower-moving rockets or drones.
The system's strategy involves firing hundreds of coin-sized laser beams. Once the initial hit is detected, the remaining beams are redirected to the same spot, enhancing the weapon's precision and effectiveness.#IronBeam #LaserDefense #DirectedEnergyWeapons #DEW #IsraelDefense #EnergyBasedTechnology #DefenseInnovation #MissileDefense #LaserWeapon #CostEffectiveDefense #IronDome #MilitaryTechnology #AdvancedWeapons #LaserSystems #PrecisionWeaponry

The U.S. Air Force has successfully tested a new missile powered by a liquid rocket engine, capable of reaching hypersonic speeds, according to The Hill. The test was conducted at Ohio's Wright-Patterson Air Force Base by the Air Force Research Laboratory in collaboration with a defense systems contractor.
Jason Bartolomei, the commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory and Air Force Technology Executive Officer, stated, "This project demonstrates our ability to transform and leverage our procurement model to rapidly deliver critical advanced technologies, deterring adversaries and securing victory in future conflicts. We are not just building a missile; we are paving a new path for an economically efficient, mass-producible deterrent force for the nation."
The successful test comes as the United States seeks to accelerate its weapons development efforts.#USAirForce #HypersonicMissile #LiquidRocketEngine #WrightPattersonAirForceBase #DefenseTechnology #AdvancedWeapons #MilitaryInnovation #MissileTest #AirForceResearchLab #NationalSecurity #Deterrence
