𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒 𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐑 𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊 ...

📝 Tampines Rovers had to work their socks off till the end to ensure they finally snapped their six-game winless streak by beating a resilient Young Lions 2-1 last evening (18/9) at Our Tampines Hub.

Zehrudin Mehmedović gave the Stags the lead before half-time that was cancelled out by the spot-kick from Young Lions' skipper Jacob Mahler in the 71st minute.

However, "Super-sub" Taufik Suparno's strike in the 73rd minute ensured Tampines' misery of late had ended with this hard-fought victory.

🤓 Like I mentioned in my recent FB live streaming session, things will bounce back and Tampines did just that although it wasn't an easy feat against a fearless Young Lion side and now awaiting them are two tough fixtures against Lion City Sailors followed by Albirex Niigata (Singapore).

It is understood that Ilhan is nursing an injury that did not see him play in yesterday's (18/9) match.

I believe those in their fifties and above would know who Mat Noh was.

Nicknamed "Allan Clarke" of local football, the good-looking striker was a heartthrob to many ladies fans and wowed many with his dazzling skills on the field during his heydays in the 1970s when starring for the national team in their Malaysia Cup exploits that ignited the "Kallang Roar" era.

But how many who were born in the 1980s actually know him or his contemporaries and those who were born in the late 1970s might be too young to know who they were until they read about them in newspapers, etc.?

And because of such ignorance, it led to one unsavoury incident that triggered one uproar that a late former national player was not properly accoladed on the night when he should at the closing ceremony of the old National Stadium (I shall not dwell on this incident, just go and Google it, as it still left a bitter taste on my tongue whenever I think about it).

The news of the demise of Mr Mat Noh saw another round of nostalgic recollections on social media.

Such a show of affection made me why do we have to wait till very late to realize who they were?

Shouldn't there be a better engagement or effort to make in order not to let those former players faded into oblivion?

Till then, stay safe and healthy and don't gather in numbers

Thank you for your support.

SAILORS CRUSHED STAGS

📝 Lion City Sailors crushed Tampines Rovers 6-1 to seal
AFC Champions League slot next year but they know it too well that the bigger prize is still that elusive AIA Singapore Premier League title with the gap between them and Albirex Niigata (Singapore) is narrowed to two points in the standing.

🤓 Ironically, the Sailors would need a huge favour from the crest-fallen Stags when the latter take on the defending champion this coming Friday at Jurong East with such a short recovery timeframe. (📷 LCSFC)

𝐕𝐔𝐋𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐁𝐋𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐆𝐒 ...

⬇️ Things went downward spiral for Tampines Rovers after AFC Champions League, losing all six games, conceding 27 goals and scoring just one in the campaign.

⬇️ Losing five out of seven games since resuming of AIA Singapore Premier League season, with only win against Young Lions followed by 6-1 defeat by Lion City Sailors.

🔥 Revelation of "toxic environment" in the dressing in the attached The Straits Times article.

But club is looking forward to the next season to strengthen the squad and stay loyal to beleaguered coach Gavin Lee whose contract is extended to June 2024.

🗣️"We have to be honest and realise that we underestimated the toll it would have on us and overestimated the ability we thought we had in dealing with it." Tampines Rovers' chairman Desmond Ong.
