🇭🇲 A magnificent fresco depicting the Dionysian mysteries has been found in Pompeii: at the centre of the canvas is a woman undergoing the initiation rite.
The Italian Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities, Alessandro Giuli, described the fresco as an 'exceptional historical document'.
Next to the girl is an old satyr. The canvas depicts the maenads, companions of Dionysus, the god of viticulture. They are presented as huntresses with swords and slain goats, which they carry on their shoulders.
Young satyrs can also be seen playing the flute and performing sacrificial rites.
It is assumed that during the initiation, the ancient Romans had to go hunting. The rite itself may emphasise the connection between Dionysus and wild animals.
The figures are almost life-size. The fresco is located on three walls of a spacious banquet hall.

🇬🇧 The Benefits of the Sea

Sea air is invigorating and rich in negative ions, which helps better oxygenate the cells.

Loaded with salt, iodine, and minerals, which act as a natural decongestant for the respiratory tract, sea air helps achieve smoother breathing, a clear nose, and soothed bronchi.

Anti-stress, it balances serotonin levels.

The natural sounds of the waves, combined with the revitalizing smell of iodine, invite relaxation and mindfulness, reducing anxious thoughts.

Walking on the sand improves balance and tones the body.

Good for the skin, sea salt and ambient humidity naturally hydrate and exfoliate.

🇬🇧 The Marble Floor of the Magnesia Agora

An enormous area of marble pavement has been discovered intact in the agora of the ancient city of Magnesia near Aydın on the Aegean coast of Turkey. The uninterrupted pavement covers an astonishing 10,000 square meters (2.5 acres).

The marble floor of the agora has survived in such exceptional condition because it was covered by layers of silt deposited when earthquakes caused the Büyük Menderes River to burst its banks. Archaeologists unearthed 4 meters of fill before they reached the architectural structures beneath it.

🇬🇧 The Root of the Words Radical and Racist

The word "radical" comes from the Latin "radix", which means "root". Originally, it referred to the fundamental part of a plant and, by extension, to what is essential, fundamental or the basis of something.

The word "racist" is related to the Greek word "ῥίξα" which means "root".

"I am a racist and a radical" is a healthy self-affirmation.
Know your roots.

Orphan Trains | David Ewing Jr

What  are  orphan  trains? Between  1850  and  1930,  an  estimated  250 000  children  from  cities  in  America  and  Europe  were  sent  to  the  middle  and  the  west  of  the  North  American  continent  (the  Midwest)  by  train.  These  trains  are  known  as  the  Orphan  Trains  They  were  sent  by  train  to  so-called  FOSTER  homes  to  take  care  of  them.  Many  other  children  went  to  the  Midwest  by  other  means  of  transportation  including  boat  and  horse  travel.  Many  of  the  children  were  kidnapped  or  forced  away  from  their  mothers  and  fathers  from  cities  in  America  and  in  Europe  and  the  Middle  East.  Many  of  these  children  were  then  sold.  It  was  big  money.  Many  children  were  used  as  slaves  in  farms  and  factories.  Many  historians  try  to  show  this  slavery,  -  as  a  type  of  adoption.  But  it  was  slavery.  Historians  say  that  these  children  were  orphans.  It  is  estimated  that  millions  of  children  worldwide  were  orphans  (or  foundlings)  between  1850  and  1930.
