Meet professor Gordon Williams, one of the founders of SPHMMC
Professor Gordon Williams OBE, MS, FRCS
Professor Williams graduated from University College Hospital (UCH) and having been a Senior House Officer (SHO), Registrar and Senior Registrar at Hammersmith Hospital, he joined the staff in 1978 as an Urologist with an interest in the Surgery of Renal failure. He was a member then Chairman of the SAC in Urology, followed by Chairman of the JCHST and led the team which developed the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Project. Whilst there he also set up the kidney transplant programs in Myanmar, Nigeria, Syria and Poland and also wrote the majority of his 216 paper and 32 book chapters.
Professor Williams first visited Ethiopia in 1984, sponsored by the British Council as an external examiner in surgery, and visited there at least twice and once 9 times per year to teach, train and operate at the main teaching hospital and the Fistula Hospital. He permanently moved to Ethiopia in 2007 as the Foundation Dean of a new medical school, but resigned after a year due to a complete lack of support from the Medical Faculty of Addis Ababa University. He became the Medical Director of the Fistula Hospitals for the next three and a half years and when he left there were 5 more hospitals and was a regular visitor to Afghanistan, Yemen and South Sudan to carry out fistula repairs and associated surgery. In 2010 Professor Williams was awarded an OBE for his contribution to Urology and in particular Fistula surgery and is also the recipient of the Albert Schweitzer award, the St Peter's Medal and 2 other medals. He is now the Head of the Academic Clinical Division of Bethel Medical College in Addis Ababa where he believes its students should be very much involved in community work. He is still practicing Urology and hopes to start Renal Transplantation this year.

በሀገር አቀፍ ደረጃ የመድኃኒት ቤቶችና መድኃኒት መደብሮች ላይ አስገዳጅ ደረጃ በቅርቡ ሊተገበር መሆኑን የኢትዮጵያ ምግብና መድኃኒት ባለሥልጣን ገለጸ።
የባለሥልጣኑ ዋና ዳይሬክተር ሄራን ገርባ እንዳሉት፤ የመድኃኒት ቤትና መድኃኒት መደብር ላይ ቁጥጥር ለማድረግ ሀገር አቀፍ አስገዳጅ ደረጃ ወጥቷል።
አስገዳጅ ደረጃው መድኃኒት ቤትም ሆነ መድኃኒት መደብር ምን ዓይነት ባለሙያዎች ሊኖሯቸው ይገባል፣ ምን ዓይነት መድኃኒት ይይዛሉ፣ የመድኃኒት ቤቱ ወይም መደብሩ ስፋት የሚለውንና ሌሎች ተያያዥ ጉዳዮችን ያካተተ መሆኑንም ገልጸዋል።
ክልሎች ለመድኃኒት ቤትና መድኃኒት መደብር ፈቃድ የሚሰጡበት መስፈርት የተለያየ መሆኑን አንስተው፤ ወጥነት ያለው ለማድረግ ደረጃው መዘጋጀቱን ተናግረዋል።
ደረጃው መውጣቱን ተከትሎ አሠራሩ እስኪተገበር ድረስ ለአዲስ መድኃኒት ቤትና መድኃኒት መደብር ፈቃድ እንዳይሰጥ መደረጉንም አንስተዋል።
የባለሥልጣኑ ምክትል ዳይሬክተር ስዩም ወልዴ በበኩላቸው፤ ከዚህ ቀደም በአገር አቀፍ ደረጃ መድኃኒት ቤቶችና መደብሮች ላይ ደረጃ ወጥቶ ሲሰራ ስላልነበር በክልል ቁጥጥር አካላት ወጥ የሆነ የቁጥጥር ሥርዓት መዘርጋት ሳይቻል ቀርቷል ብለዋል።
ስለሆነም በሁሉም ተቆጣጣሪ አካላት ሊተገበር የሚችል ሀገራዊ መስፈርት ማውጣት አስፈላጊ መሆኑ ታምኖበት ከኢትዮጵያ ደረጃዎች ኢንስቲትዩት ጋር በመተባበር ደረጃው መውጣቱን ገልፀዋል።
በደረጃው የተቀመጡ መስፈርቶች ላይ መመሪያ ተዘጋጅቶ ለክልል ተቆጣጣሪ አካላት ሥልጠና መሰጠቱን ጠቅሰው፤ ተግባራዊ ለማድረግ ዝግጅት መጠናቀቁን ተናግረዋል።
ደረጃው አዲስ በመሆኑ በወጥነት እንዲተገበር ባለሙያዎችንና ባለድርሻ አካላትን የማሰልጠን ተግባር ይቀጥላል ብለዋል
