โœ…Yes / โŒNo questions

Yes / No questions are those questions that expect โ€˜yesโ€™ or โ€˜noโ€™ as answer. These questions do not take the question words when, what, where etc.

Yes / No questions are used to check information or ask for confirmation.

โ€˜Are you coming with us?โ€™ โ€˜Yes.โ€™

โ€˜Has he returned the car?โ€™ โ€˜No, he hasnโ€™t.โ€™

โ€˜Do you live in Chicago?โ€™ โ€˜No, I donโ€™t.โ€™

โ€˜Does she speak English?โ€™ โ€˜Yes, she does.โ€™

โ€˜Did you meet John yesterday?โ€™ โ€˜No, I didnโ€™t.โ€™

Note the use of auxiliary verbs in the above examples.

When we answer Yes / No questions we do not normally repeat the complete the question. Instead, we use an appropriate auxiliary verb. This auxiliary is usually present in the question.

โ€˜Does Mike live with you?โ€™ โ€˜Yes, he does.โ€™

โ€˜Did Maya tell you she wasnโ€™t coming?โ€™ โ€˜No, she didnโ€™t.โ€™

In negative answers we use the auxiliary verb and not. Usually a contracted form is used.

โ€˜Have you ever visited Argentina?โ€™ โ€˜Yes, I have.โ€™

โ€˜Will you help me?โ€™ โ€˜No, I wonโ€™t.โ€™ (wonโ€™t = will not)

Here is an overview of Yes / No questions in different tenses.

Present Perfect

โ€˜Have you received the letter?โ€™ โ€˜Yes, I have.โ€™

โ€˜Has he returned from Mumbai?โ€™ โ€˜No, he hasnโ€™t.โ€™

โ–ถ๏ธPast Simple

โ€˜Did you know the answer?โ€™ โ€˜No, I didnโ€™t.โ€™

Also ๐Ÿ‘‰ Short Stories for Kids NEW NEW NEW

Short stories have a way of teaching lessons that makes them more relatable and interesting. Rather than just telling your kid not to lie, relating a short story about it helps them understand what happens when they lie. It helps them become more aware of their actions and their consequences. The moral lessons from these stories also help shape their character and moral compass as they grow old.

๐Ÿ“น Do Not Ask These Questions in an English Conversation
๐Ÿ‘ค #Learn_English_with_Bob_the_Canadian

๐Ÿ“น480p

It's important as an English learner to know when a question is impolite, rude, or considered an invasion of privacy. If someone wants to share personal information with you, they will do so on their own time, and it might be considered prying for you to ask.
