As an IELTS Writing Examiner, I would rate the essay provided as a Band 9 because it meets all the criteria for the highest score in the IELTS Writing Task 2 band descriptors. Here’s a breakdown of why this essay achieves a Band 9:
### 1. Task Response**- **Fully addresses all parts of the task: The essay clearly discusses whether the advantages of living with parents after finishing education and getting a job outweigh the disadvantages. Both sides of the argument are presented, with a well-supported opinion that concludes the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
- Presents a fully developed position: The essay offers a balanced view, weighing the benefits (financial stability, emotional support) against the drawbacks (lack of independence, potential family conflicts). It uses specific, relevant examples to explain each point, ensuring that ideas are fully extended and well-supported.
### 2. Coherence and Cohesion**- **Uses cohesion in such a way that it attracts no attention: The essay is logically structured with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the argument, and ideas flow logically from one to the next.
- Skillfully manages paragraphing: The essay is divided into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose—introducing the topic, presenting the advantages, discussing the disadvantages, and concluding the argument. Transition words and phrases such as "one significant advantage," "however," "despite these disadvantages," and "in conclusion" are used effectively to guide the reader through the text without overuse.
### 3. Lexical Resource**- **Uses a wide range of vocabulary with natural and sophisticated control: The essay demonstrates an impressive range of vocabulary, including collocations and advanced expressions like "financial stability," "accumulate savings," "fosters a supportive environment," "overly reliant," and "strain family relationships." These terms are used accurately and appropriately within context.
- Produces rare errors in word choice or collocation: The vocabulary is precise and varied, with no noticeable errors in word choice or form. The use of less common lexical items enhances the quality of the essay.
### 4. Grammatical Range and Accuracy**- **Uses a wide range of structures with full flexibility and accuracy: The essay includes a variety of complex sentences, relative clauses, conditional sentences, and passive constructions, demonstrating a sophisticated grasp of English grammar.
- Maintains a high degree of grammatical accuracy: There are no grammatical errors in the essay. The essay is error-free in terms of sentence structure, punctuation, and grammar, which is crucial for achieving a Band 9.
### 5. Overall Impression**- The essay is a perfect example of a **Band 9 response. It is well-organized, coherent, and comprehensive. The task is fully addressed with balanced arguments and a clear, well-supported opinion. The language used is precise, varied, and advanced, showcasing the writer's ability to effectively convey complex ideas.
For these reasons, the essay clearly meets the IELTS criteria for a Band 9 score. It demonstrates a full understanding of the task, uses cohesive devices naturally, exhibits a wide range of advanced vocabulary and grammatical structures, and maintains accuracy throughout.

Model Speaking Answer

Describe a person who has inspired you. You should say:**- Who the person is
- How you know this person- What qualities this person has
- And explain how they have inspired you.
---
Okay, um... I'd like to talk about my high school teacher, Mr. Roberts, who has been a great source of inspiration for me. So, Mr. Roberts was my English teacher during my final two years in school, and, uh, I got to know him quite well because I was also part of the debate club, which he supervised.
Well, uh, Mr. Roberts has many admirable qualities, but, um, I think the one that stands out the most is his passion for teaching. He always went beyond the regular curriculum to, you know, make sure we understood the subject in a deeper way. He had this amazing ability to make even the most boring topics interesting and, um, encouraged us to think critically rather than just memorize facts. Another quality that I greatly admire is his patience. He never lost his temper, even when students were struggling or not paying attention, which, you know, can be quite a challenge for a teacher.
Now, as for how he inspired me, well, it’s mainly through his dedication and his genuine care for his students' growth. He always emphasized the importance of continuous learning and, uh, being curious about the world. This has, um, really stayed with me, and I think it’s one of the reasons I developed a love for learning myself. Whenever I face a difficult situation, I remember his words about perseverance and, um, staying focused on the end goal.
So, overall, Mr. Roberts not only inspired me academically but also, you know, shaped my outlook on life. He taught me that education is not just about passing exams but about, um, developing a mindset that helps you navigate through life’s challenges. And, for that, I am really grateful.
