🌟 Слово дня:
To catcall – освистывать.

The audience was so captivated by the performance that no one dared to catcall, respecting the actors' hard work on stage.

Изначально a catcall - дудка, в XVII веке использовавшаяся зрителями для выражения своего неодобрения в театре. Предположительно, звук дудки напоминал звуки, издаваемые рассерженным котом.

🌟 Apart from being a talented poet and playwright, William Shakespeare was also... an inventor! It is estimated that he coined over 1500 new words and expressions, and some of them remain in use to this day.

🌟 Words like cold-blooded, addiction, summit, obscene, exposure and scores of other words that are used in everyday speech were created by Shakespeare. Some of his coinages, however, can now be found only in literary works.

Our personal favourites are these five Shakespearean words, though nowadays you can rarely encounter them even in written speech:

😉Firmament (n.) - небосвод;
😉Termagant (n.) - сварливая женщина, мегера;
😉Vizard (n.) - личина, маска;
😉Incarnadine (v.) - окрасить в красный;
😉Limn (v.) - описывать, изображать.
