The GDC presentation on Rendering, Materials, and Lights in the game! It's amazing how certain features are still valuable and usable over a decade later.

A nice touch on Color Theory that is also affecting modern games: you can have a very limited variety of saturated objects on screen to keep it appealing.

And you have to either desaturate the whole image or limit the variety around 1-2 compatible tones.

Yeah, I can relate: the art direction always wins and modern gaming is often BLAND AF.

But they are also unable to make anything meaningful with the UI, immersive elements, animations, and AI. The things that work in the original Stalker trilogy, METRO games, and many other similar projects.

People are generally impressed by the level of details of the new game and how they tried to preserve the art style but without technical limitations of the past...

There are tons of purchased assets in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but no one offended and criticize the visuals of the game. It clearly shows own style and coherent artistic vision.

Just sayin!

I wanna a game where we're just being a tenant of these living quarters of Stray. No sewers, no running, just a cozy life in a neon dystopia.
