Over the last couple of years I intentionally added all reasonable free to play multiplayer games to my Steam account. Dozens of games to simply look after the industry.

Many of them were just released
Most of them are already closed

Like literally: end of line, support termination, we took a tough decision to take the game offline. Party games, competitive games, and so on. I haven't even played most of them and never will. Often they don't even announce it β€” the server just goes offline and the game ends up unable to connect.

Were they that bad? Nope, but the whole market is oversaturated and there's barely any place left to conquer. Make solo games, folks, they are timeless.

Spellcaster Chronicles from Quantic Dream is going to be closed. The game only made it to 1000 CCU on Steam and now holds about 20...

... NetEase, according to insights, will cease funding of the studio due to the failure of the game. Their more common story-driven projects were supposed to be funded from the success of this multiplayer.

Who's going to tell them?
Haven't they noticed yet?!

Bungie gives up on Destiny 2: the game will no longer get any updates after the upcoming final one.

This news appeared after the commercial reports revealed that the studio is the financial black hole and caused over $700m losses for PlayStation during the last financial year alone.

Marathon waves between 3 and 12K CCU daily without any noticeable recovery. And fell to 225th position among top sellers on Steam. Now Bungie is hoping to explore what to do next.

Wargaming just released World of Tanks Heat, a hero-shooter but you're a tank. Good part: it's at least getting some traction (they were running a marketing campaign for half a year to collect wishlists).

And almost the same as with their recently failed robot game Steel Hunters, the reviews are negative. Because both games were packed with content 2-3 years before the release and then it was cut out before the release to make "updates" out of it.

That's not how you make a modern Live-Service game, unfortunately. The most passionate fans, the advocates and ambassadors mock Wargaming for it. They spread the word, but a bad one.

And the game crashes a lot (server connection issues, the client fails with and without visible errors, etc).

Spellcaster Chronicles from Quantic Dream is now closed.

Instead of hiding in the shadows, Quantic Dream is preparing materials about the development of the game. Concept Arts are already available.

Paid founders pack granted users earlier access, but overall it was free to play. And by the decision of the developer and publisher, all in-game payments were refunded automatically + they enabled extended refund on Steam.

PlayStation plans (πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅) to continue its investment into Live-Service Games. They don't care that all the previous ones failed, if just one will not, it will pay off. What kind of copium is that?

Marathon now sits at 2800-8300 CCU on Steam and continue to decline. And Helldivers 2 was the only successful multiplayer they released as the publisher. And it didn't cover the spendings on the remaining 15 games that were closed.

1047 Games, the studio behind Splitgate and Empulse is firing a significant but undisclosed amount of people (again).

They already laid off 45 people (28% of staff) last year when Splitgate 2 failed commercially. Now Empulse ("inspired by Titanfall") found no players and therefore no revenue to keep the company up.

Splitgate and Empulse have failed commercially, they will be turned into Peer-2-Peer now. The official servers will be closed.

Stop killing games way of sunsetting your games: despite limitations, people will still have the access and the ability to play.
