Escalation in Syria: Islamists Loyal to Turkey Launch Attack on Kurdish Areas

Following the outbreak of the heaviest fighting in Syria in several years, Kurdish areas are now under acute threat from attacks by jihadist groups cooperating with Turkey. While the Islamist group Haiat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda formerly known as al-Nusra Front, has been advancing on Aleppo since Wednesday and fighting with the Assad regime’s forces, the Turkish-loyal mercenaries of the so-called Syrian National Army (SNA) are currently preparing a major attack on the Kurdish region of Tal Rifaat in northwestern Syria. The Turkish army is already bombing the region from the air and on the ground. Attacks on the Kurdish town of Ain Issa have also been reported. According to local sources, Turkey has also opened the border to northwestern Syria, allowing more jihadist fighters to enter Syria.

New phase of attacks on Rojava and people of Syria

The ongoing attacks in Aleppo, Shehba and Afrin mark a new phase of attacks against the people of Syria. We have to understand this attacks not just as attacks against Syria and Rojava, but against the achievements of humanity and all freedom loving people in the times of the Third World War.
Reactionary fascist gangs backed by the Turkish State killing civilians, occupying large parts of Aleppo and bringing back the fear of ISIS times.

Turkey is continuing its genocidal politics and is trying to eliminate the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria – and with this eliminate years of women’s liberation, our fight for freedom and our achievements in creating a free and democratic society. A society where people of different ethnic groups, religions and political perspective live together in peace.
The danger from patriarchal, violent, Islamist gangs and oppressive states can only be overcome by developing a strong self-defense. The people of Rojava prepare themselves in the framework of the Revolutionaries People's War. Let’s support them with our international solidarity!

Together we defend the Women's Revolution of Rojava! Together we defend the hope for peace in the Middle East!!!

In 2018, Turkey attacked and occupied Afrîn, and in autumn 2019, Gîre Spi and Serêkanîye. In response, the Kurdish Women's Movement (Kongra Star) called for international support.
Since then, the campaign Women Defend Rojava gathers many internationalist solidarity activities with the Women's Revolution and the people of Rojava.

For 5 years we have been organizing in more than 36 committees around the world. We have marched and took actions, we have published leaflets, books and dossiers, we have organized education, information events and delegations.

Today again, the people of Syria and the whole Middle East are under attack. At a time when the destruction by capitalist patriarchy is intensifying and war is spreading all over the world Islamist gangs, fed by the Turkish state, are terrorizing the people and continuing the policies of genocide and feminicide. This are attacks against Rojava. This are attacks against our hope for peace in the Middle East.
In Rojava, the women's revolution lives on and the construction of a democratic society is taking place. In the areas of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, people of different ethnic, religious and political groups live together and organize their daily life according to their needs. This was made possible through a long struggle with many sacrifice. In 2015, the Women’s and People's Protection Units (YPG/YPJ) defeated ISIS in Kobanê. In 2019 the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) liberated Raqqa from the Islamist dictatorship of ISIS. Now the SDF and the YPG/YPJ have to fight once more against the Islamist gangs and imperialist plans in Aleppo, Sheba, Manbij and North and East Syria.

It is time to take action.
It is time to strengthen our networks of rebellion.
It is time to defend Rojava!
