Windows’ Weather app uses obscene memory – are Linux apps better?
I flummoxed to read a report about how much memory Microsoft’s Weather app uses on Windows 11 – more than 1GB just to render what is, ostensibly, a fancy table of stats. I was less flummoxed to check the memory usage of Mousam, my current go-to weather app on Linux. It the same job for under a third of the Windows figure and, in my opinion, has a much nicer design too. Not everyone running Windows 11 will spot memory usage as high as that reported by Windows Latest, but on my low-power Chuwi laptop (the same one I checked […]

Hewlett Packard Enterprise and EigenQ offer PCIe retrofit for post-quantum security
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and EigenQ (a cybersecurity company focused on post-quantum security) are taking a retrofit-first approach to post-quantum security, allowing organizations to add quantum-resistant protection to existing server infrastructure instead of replacing entire estates. The PCIe-based solution targets defense, government, critical infrastructure, healthcare, and financial services customers facing tighter security and compliance timelines.

📰 I ran a Pi-hole for a week and was genuinely disturbed by how much my TV phones home
I was getting tired of the ads and promotional content plastered across my smart TV’s interface. I’d already set up a Pi-hole on a Raspberry Pi 4 to block the trackers that feed those ad profiles. So plugging my LG C2 into the network and pointing it at the Pi-hole for DNS felt like the obvious next step.
