Syria's new People's Assembly convened for its inaugural session on Sunday, marking the first parliament formed since the fall of Bashar al-Assad. During the session, members elected Abdul Hamid al-Awak, the constitutional law expert who chaired the committee that drafted Syria's 2025 Constitutional Declaration, as Speaker of Parliament. Mustafa Moussa and Madonna Beshara were elected first and second deputy speakers, respectively, while Muayad Habib was chosen as the assembly's secretary, completing the executive bureau.
