I hope to God that poor camel wasn't actually for food yet (it does walk by itself and doesn't spoil!), but it sure does feel as if "eating your horses" (or camels, as the case might be) is not far. The irony of this is that a lot - really, a lot! - of Russian soliders are from Middle Asian parts of the former USSR and presumably camels are a familiar steed to them. Nonetheless, I think that if any part of your army is riding camels in the 21st century for whatever reason, it is time to stop indeed. Finally.

The new "Knives Out" movie is a cheap giveaway to Russian speakers. I can tell right away the lost fortune will have to do with the box being a Faberge, which none of the characters realize, but a few hundred million viewers would, if they pay attention at the right moment.

At Teatro La Fenice, they don't take your coat if you are in the
cheap seats. And yes, on my 51st birthday I am once again in the cheapest seat in the house! But at least I am at the opera - and, I might be sitting on top of my coat, but I have full perfect view!

Full house for Nabucco in Riga tonight, and, by the way, quite the house they have here! And the public decorum of its dedicated audience puts me to shame. I was intimidated by -12C despite staying only 350 yards away, and was forced to wear boots and a sweater under my dress, which consequently made the signature pearls unfeasible. I am in Riga for other reasons tonight, but I am looking forward to it. Mostly local talent, by the looks of it.
