Yesterday, an event organized by QA:FI took place, marking two years since being queer in Russia became considered extremism. Around 15 people joined us, both queer and queer-friendly, from Russia and other countries. Messages from trans persons in Russia were read aloud, containing sharp criticism of the authorities’ actions in Russia.
After the rally, a panel was held discussing the current situation both for refugees from Russia and for queer people within Russia.

Come support queer people from Kazakhstan on 13 December at 1:00 PM. The protest will be held in front of the Embassy of Kazakhstan (Helsinki, Hopeasalmentie 4).
Recently, Kazakhstan passed a law that prohibits the free dissemination of information and education in the queer sphere. Any comment (even from provocateurs or bots) can become grounds for prosecution. Fines are imposed (significant amounts for Kazakhstan, up to €250), and for repeated “violations,” administrative arrests of up to 10 days are possible.
As part of an international campaign to draw attention to this issue, we demand that the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs condemn the illegal actions against the LGBTQ+ community in Kazakhstan. We also call on the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) to update its information on the situation of queer people in Kazakhstan and to provide asylum if necessary.
