At the Frontline of Global Affairs: Fellows in Action 🌎
Our IR specialists are spending their days at the heart of decision-making — in places where policies are debated, ideas collide, and the contours of international affairs take shape.
🔵 A Candid Conversation with Dmitri Trenin
A standout moment was an open-mic session with Dmitri Trenin, Academic Supervisor of the Institute of World Military Economy and Strategy at HSE University. Fellows discussed the role of the nation-state in today’s Russian foreign policy, the shifting centers of power, and how former adversaries can turn into strategic partners.
🔵 Russian International Affairs Council
Here, the young specialists delved into the intersection of research and diplomacy, observing how RIAC develops analytical materials, builds expert networks, and fosters public dialogue on global challenges.
🔵 Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology
At Skoltech, the group toured advanced labs, watched ideas evolve from concept to prototype, and met researchers at the cutting edge of engineering, data, and emerging technologies.
🔵 Russia Today
The fellows went behind the scenes to see how international news is produced and discussed the media’s role in shaping global narratives.
The academic module is complete, but the most important part is ahead: today our IR specialists are defending their projects🔚
🔥 — Wish them good luck

Have you ever wondered what keeps a metropolis where every second counts running? ☀️
But our energy specialists from ASEAN know the answer. Last week, they visited Moscow, where the group met the people who power the whole country, explored the technologies behind its critical infrastructure, and saw how bold ideas turn into real-world impact.
📍 Russian Energy Agency of the Ministry of Energy
From digital modeling to modern monitoring tools, Alexey Kulapin, REA General Director, introduced the fellows to Russia’s strategic vision for boosting efficiency, reducing losses, and building smarter regional energy systems.
📍 Russia–ASEAN Business Council & Global Energy Association
In forward-looking sessions with Daniyar Akkaziev, CEO Russia–ASEAN Business Council, and Sergey Brilev, a Russian journalist, President of the Global Energy Association, they discussed new avenues for cooperation: joint research, technology partnerships, and youth-driven energy initiatives.
📍 Transneft
Here, our fellows learned how operators manage pressure, flow, and safety across thousands of kilometers, as well as how digital systems enable real-time monitoring of critical infrastructure.
📍 ATOM Museum
Through interactive models, archival exhibits, and visual installations, the group explored the evolution of nuclear science — from early reactors to modern applications in medicine, energy, and future technologies.
After a few days in Moscow’s energy ecosystem, one thing is clear: the future of energy depends on collaboration and people who are willing to look deeper. Our ASEAN fellows have done exactly that — your turn is coming; keep an eye on the news!💬

What’s on the Minds of Tomorrow’s Global Policymakers? 📚
After six intensive weeks, our international relations fellows took the final — and most exciting — step of the program: defending the projects rooted in their academic backgrounds, field-specific interests, and the discussions they’ve had with leading experts from the MGIMO Institute for International Studies.
What issues drove their research?
❤️ Foreign Policy and Identity
❤️ Multipolarity and Global Governance
❤️ Regional Security Architectures
❤️ South–South Cooperation and Development
❤️ Information, Knowledge, and Cognitive Sovereignty
Together, these projects show how young IR specialists are rethinking the global agenda — not by repeating familiar narratives, but by challenging assumptions and proposing fresh, grounded perspectives.
Stay tuned — the new discoveries are already on the way✨

Shaping Nuclear Tomorrow 😁
The journey of our nuclear specialists is far from over — but one major milestone is now behind them. After two intensive weeks in Moscow filled with deep-dive sessions, hands-on modeling, and the kind of “lightbulb moments” they’re ready to move forward.
So what exactly did the fellows explore?
🔺 Forging a nation’s nuclear future
🔺 Tools and models that show where low-carbon systems are headed and why nuclear matters
🔺 The real economics of clean energy
🔺 Non-electric applications for nuclear energy
🔺 The world of SMRs
A highlight of the program was the open discussions with Maria Oseeva, Head of International Nuclear Infrastructure Projects at Rosatom International Network, and Sergey Brilev, journalist and President of the Global Energy Association, where participants delved into not only the “how” of nuclear development but also the “why.”
And the fellowship is only gaining speed. Ahead is St. Petersburg, new expert panels, and the long-awaited visit tothe Leningrad NPP . Keep following — the most exciting insights are still on the way. 👍

How InteRussia Unites Young Minds Shaping Global Affairs 📚
What stays with you after an intense academic journey — the knowledge you gained, the connections you built, or the perspectives that reshaped your thinking?
This autumn, Moscow became a meeting point for young IR researchers from Afghanistan, Belarus, Brazil, India, Mauritius, Mexico, Pakistan, Serbia, and Tanzania. What began as an academic program quickly turned into something more — thoughtful debates, bold questions, and new lenses on the world.
Here’s what shaped their experience:
✨ As tradition goes, the fellowship centered on scientific research developed under the guidance of leading experts from MGIMO Institute for International Studies.
✨ The fellows took part in the BRICS International School, exploring emerging global dynamics and exchanging ideas with peers from around the world.
✨ A highlight of the program was an in-depth discussion on global politics and strategic thinking with Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, and Dmitry Trenin, Academic Supervisor of the Institute of World Military Economy and Strategy at HSE University.
✨ Visits to the Russian International Affairs Council, RT Headquarters, and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology offered a closer look at how ideas move from analysis to media narratives and technological solutions.
✨ Beyond сlasses, fellows immersed themselves in Russia’s rich culture and history through the Tretyakov Gallery and the ballet "Ruslan and Lyudmila."
The fellowship may have ended, but the spark it started is still going strong. Ideas are bouncing, friendships are growing, and the next adventures are already on the horizon.
Keep an eye out — the fellows’ research stories are coming soon!🪶

What Does Russia’s Energy Future Look Like? ✨
Recently, our ASEAN fellows experienced Russia’s energy landscape firsthand, feeling the pulse of substations, observing how infrastructure responds to demand, and seeing how technology and policy work seamlessly together.
Here’s what that their journey looked like:
🔴 The fellows met with global leaders at the XVIII International Scientific and Practical Hybrid Conference “Energetika XXI: Economy, Policy, Ecology,” dove into energy policy through open conversation with Alexey Kulapin, REA General Director, and explored emerging trends alongside the Russia-ASEAN Business Council and the Global Energy Association.
🔴 From massive operations at Transneft, Rosseti, and the Skolkovo Innovation Center to the cutting-edge Intelligent Digital Network Lab and Neva Waste Processing Facility, our participants witnessed how data, automation, and sustainability converge in real time.
🔴 They stepped into energy logistics on the ground at Gorelectrotrans, Zifergauz, and a Gazprom Neft fueling station in St. Petersburg, then toured the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant, gaining a close-up view of advanced nuclear operations in action.
🔴 Learning also meant immersing in culture: from the Smolny Museum and meetings with city officials to the Hermitage, Mariinsky Theatre, and the Atom Museum — a deep dive into Russia’s history, science, and art.
The program once again showed that energy isn’t just wires and machines — it’s curiosity that sparks innovation, teamwork that turns challenges into solutions, and connections that carry knowledge across borders.

Last, but definitely not least 🌟
The moment has come to wrap up the year’s final fellowship, and unforgettable in its own way. Specialists from Argentina, Bolivia, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Montenegro, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan set out to gain a comprehensive overview of key Russian nuclear technologies and their practical application across various fields: in energy, medicine, agriculture, and industry.
So what shaped this experience?
🔴 First — the depth of learning. Participants explored how nuclear newcomer countries build their national positions, dove into modern energy planning tools, and unpacked technological solutions related to the operation of large-capacity NPPs and SMRs, as well as peaceful nuclear technologies.
🔴 Then — practice. Fellows visited the Leningrad NPP-2 with its modern Generation 3+ VVER-1200 reactors, where they were shown the control room, turbine generator unit, and cooling towers for the secondary circuit condenser.
🔴 They touched history at the world’s first NPP in Obninsk, and learned about best practices in nuclear medicine and the use of radiation technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer at the A.Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Center.
🔴 And for the first time ever, this program became a three-city journey — Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Obninsk — offering not just professional insight, but a deeper cultural and historical connection to the places where nuclear science was shaped.
This chapter ends — but the connections don’t. Because it builds understanding, trust, and long-term cooperation, shaping the future of peaceful nuclear technologies.
