Ukraine carried out a large-scale, combined missile strike on Donetsk today, using a mix of FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles, Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missiles, and potentially another unidentified munition. Two separate targets were struck.
Six missiles hit an underground parking facility at an unfinished residential complex, while another seven struck an industrial building. Ukrainian channels claim both locations were being used to store large quantities of military equipment, including missile and rocket launchers, armored vehicles, and personnel.
Several fragments with folded wings, typically associated with glide bombs and jet-powered stand-off munitions, were recovered. Based on the surviving markings, at least some of the munitions used in the strike have been identified as Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missiles.
One fragment bears a manufacturerโs plate marked MBDA FRANCE, along with the manufacturer code F0555. Another fragment contains a toothed mechanism, serial number 10625, and the date 20.08.2024. This is likely part of the mechanism used to deploy or control the missileโs wing.
As for the unidentified munition, one possibility is a weapon developed under the U.S. Extended-Range Attack Missile (ERAM) program. However, no confirmed photographs of an intact ERAM missile have emerged so far, making this identification highly speculative.
Another possibility is the AGM-158A JASSM air-launched cruise missile.
