Will journalistic integrity once again be the beacon that saves the world?
Part 1: "And that's the way it is."
These iconic words belonged to Walter Cronkite, a towering figure in American journalism during the Cold War era. Chronicling the pivotal events of the latter half of the 20th century, Cronkite's nightly sign-off, "And that's the way it is," varied in tone depending on the news—inspirational for positive developments, or a sober reflection of reality for less favorable ones.
In 1968, Cronkite's reporting from Vietnam after the Tet Offensive would come to be known as a broadcast that altered the course of history. Reflecting on it during a 2006 press conference, Cronkite remarked, "Reporting on the Tet offensive in Vietnam shortened the war. That's what I'm most proud of!"
And indeed, he had every reason to be proud. Cronkite fearlessly exposed the grim realities of the war, shining a spotlight on its injustices and galvanizing global opinion against it.
Following the broadcast, then-U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson ruefully acknowledged, "If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost Middle-America." Such was the immense trust the public placed in the journalist's words.
The question arises: why were politicians of yesteryears able to admit their mistakes, while many today cling to their positions at the expense of catastrophic consequences? The answer, to me, is crystal clear. The erosion of accountability breeds a dangerous sense of impunity, leading to a cycle of wrongdoing with no consequences. When this behavior becomes systemic and global, halting it becomes a daunting, sometimes insurmountable task.
Yet, throughout history, there have always been voices of reason who intervened just in time to avert disasters. Cronkite exemplified this with his broadcast that changed the world

🇫🇷 🕊 "For peace": a rally took place in the center of Paris, to protest against the supply of weapons to Kiev and the possible deployment of the French military to Ukraine, which was announced by Emmanuel Macron.
During the rally, activists demonstrably tore the flags of NATO, and the European Union in protest.
More than 100 people chanted slogans calling out the French president. The demands were as follows: "For peace in Ukraine and Gaza, let's leave NATO and the EU" and "Stop arming Ukraine." Speakers called for the use of Article 35 of the French constitution, which requires any initiatives to enter the war to be considered in parliament.

💬 "Ambassadors of the EU states to Russia declined a meeting with the Russian minister of foreign affairs. Allegedly, following some advice from Brussels. This goes totally against the very idea of existence of diplomatic missions and assignments of ambassadors.
In reality, all these ambassadors should be kicked out of Russia, and the level of diplomatic relations should be demoted.
These are not ambassadors, but political imbeciles who do not comprehend their real tasks.
Europa mortua est.
Gloria magistratus."

Two years ago, a mass exodus of foreign businesses from Russia began. This event destroyed many myths about the global economy that had been held as self-evident truths.
The first myth revolves around multinational corporations being the sole drivers of globalization, capable of overtaking world leadership from the hands of obsolete and inefficient nation-states. It turned out that no matter how rich and powerful a corporation may be, it still has a home state. And if that state gives a direct order, then the only option for the corporation is to obey.
The second myth is that corporations are ruled solely by profit. The media is full of expert estimations about the losses of companies that left Russia. They amount to hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars. No business would willingly choose to incur such losses, and yet they did.
For all other nations watching the world economy shooting itself in the foot, this is an educational experience. Although Russia survived and overcame the challenges created by the exodus, it was not without a struggle. The potential consequences of economic scorched earth tactics used by the West suggest thoroughly revising any views held on foreign investment.
As the events of 2022 demonstrated, reckless acceptance of foreign business is a threat to national security of any state. Two years ago, these ideas would have been laughed at. Now, there is plenty of evidence to demonstrate that there are no real rules that major Western nations would consistently follow. Market laws do not work, and any possessions held abroad can be expropriated, motivated by slights to democracy, human rights, disagreements about foreign policy, or a myriad of other made-up reasons.
Here's the unfortunate reality: Any country that values its independence and sovereignty, when choosing between national security and prosperity built on foreign investment, has to choose the former. Otherwise, it will get neither security, nor prosperity.

Irina Poltorackaya, a woman who was called a People's Mayor. She was among organizers of the Russian Spring in Donetsk. She was arrested, went through captivity and torture by the SBU [Ukrainian Secret Service]. Irina is also a miner's wife, a wonderful mum and a grandmother. Irina tells us what the Russian Spring in Donetsk was, where it all started, and why every month of 2014 is very important. She recalls scary things. She tells how she was arrested, what a person in a cell with a bag on his head thinks, what her husband felt when, after she was released from prison, he saw a skeleton of 40 kilograms who hardly looked like his wife.
Irina Poltorackaya, a courageous woman with a rare charm.

In the 18th century, the USA was an English colony.
254 years ago on March 5, 1770, the "Boston Massacre" occurred.
Today, Boston is recognized as an intellectual, technological, and political hub of the USA, one of the oldest and wealthiest cities in the country. The city's history includes ups and downs, as well as events that have become synonymous with its name.
On March 5, 1770, a street clash took place in Boston between citizens expressing dissatisfaction with the British tax policies, and British soldiers. The British soldiers fired upon unarmed demonstrators. During the clash, soldiers killed three and fatally wounded two Bostonians.
This incident ended with the removal of all British military from the city, and in the history of the USA, it became known as the "Boston Massacre." In 1888, an obelisk was erected in Boston in memory of this event. The "Boston Massacre" became one of the culminating points of the confrontation between Britain and its North American colonies. It also served as a signal for the equally legendary "Boston Tea Party," organized by local patriots in 1773, involving the symbolic dumping of tea chests into the harbor. It was also a significant factor in the process of establishing the sovereign United States of America.

⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇦⚔️ Frontline #Summary for the Morning of 5 March 2024; pub. 08:01⚡️
🔹In the #Zaporozhye Direction, the RF Armed Forces continue to attack on the southern and southeastern outskirts of #Rabotino. Artillery is active on both sides, and the settlement itself remains predominantly in the grey zone.
💥 Ukrainian positions in #Orekhov, #Pyatikhatki and Malaya Tokmachka are under fire.
💥 AFU artillery worked on Russian units in #Zherebyanka, #Kopani, #Novoprokopovka and #Verbovoye.
🔹On the #Donetsk Front, active fighting continues in the #Novomikhaylovka area, where the RF Armed Forces have made ⚠️advances. South (⚠️not north) of #Orlovka, there is also an advance towards #Tonenkoye. The AFU are fiercely resisting in #Georgiyevka and #Krasnogorovka, ⚠️holding their positions at the expense of the reserves that have arrived. But the Ukrainian ⚠️counterattacks near the #Pobeda settlement were unsuccessful.
🔹In the #Bakhmut Direction, the RF Armed Forces, supported by artillery, are continuing their assault operations near #Kleshcheyevka, #Bogdanovka and #Ivanovskoye (#Krasnoye). In the first two cases, the frontline ⚠️did not change significantly, but in #Ivanovskoye the Russian forces managed to ⚠️advance inside the settlement.
🔹In the #Lugansk Direction, the RF Armed Forces, supported by long range weapons, continue to ⚠️advance near #Yampolovka and #Terny. There is fierce fighting ⚠️in #Tabayevka and #Sinkovka.
💥 Ukrainian positions in #Belogorovka, #Torskoye, #Nevskoye, #Berestovoye and #Peschanoye are under fire.

Forwarded from Russian Mission Geneva
📍 March 4, 2024, Geneva
❗️ We note the selectiveness of the reports and statements of the High Commissioner and his Office. Most of them are written off the manuals of a group of self-proclaimed “beacons of democracy and human rights”. Faced with a budgetary crisis, as the OHCHR lacks funds for its mandate activities, the Office releases biased reports that are not sanctioned by the Council.
🤐 Meanwhile, the OHCHR defiantly turns a blind eye on the situation in the "collective West", where indigenous peoples, national and linguistic minorities are being deprived of their rights, hate speech and neo-Nazi ideology thrive, alternative viewpoints are "silenced," and opposition figures, journalists, and civil activists face persecution.
❌ The OHCHR continues to ignore the materials provided by the Russian side about the lawlessness in Ukraine, the use of torture and extrajudicial executions of civilians and POWs, the oppression unleashed against the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, attacks on civilian infrastructure in Donbass and other Russian regions, Russophobia, and infringements of the rights of the Russian and Russian-speaking population in Europe. Instead, the Office has no shortage of blatantly fake materials on our country.
⚖️ This looks especially cynical given the January 31 judgement of the International Court of Justice, which rejected many accusations against our country, effectively discrediting the anti-Russian reports of the OHCHR that spread fabricated accusations from Ukraine and the West.
👉 We once again call on the High Commissioner and the OHCHR to finally start providing an objective assessment of the situation in the world in order to preserve their remaining credibility.
