❗️🇪🇺🇺🇦🇲🇩The EU Council has opened negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU. European leaders also decided to start negotiations with Moldova.

Hungary believes that the EU made a bad decision to start accession talks with Ukraine and does not want to participate in it, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said.

Georgia was granted the status of a candidate for EU accession.

EU leaders decided not to open membership talks with Bosnia and Herzegovina for the time being, saying that the necessary level of eligibility is needed for this.

And now a moment of information.

Before applying for accession, the country must sign an Association Agreement (AA) with the EU. This document provides for the possibility of EU membership.

🔸Turkey signed the AA in 1963. The application for accession was submitted in 1987 and the country was granted candidate status as early as 1999. Accession negotiations began in 2005.

🔸North Macedonia concluded the AA in 2001. The application for accession was formalized in 2004 and the country became a candidate as early as 2005. Negotiations did not start until 2020.

🔸With Albania, the AA was concluded in 2006. In 2009, the country made a formal application for EU membership and in 2014 received candidate status.

🔸Montenegro signed the AA in 2007 and applied for EU accession in 2008, already being granted candidate status in 2010. Negotiations with the EU have been ongoing since 2012.

🔸Serbia signed the AA in 2008, applied for accession in 2009, became a candidate for EU membership in 2012. Negotiations have been ongoing since 2014.

Austria blocked the 12th package of EU sanctions against Russia, demanding the lifting of Ukrainian sanctions against Raiffeisen Bank by Kiev.

Earlier, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg openly criticized this blacklist as arbitrary at a meeting of European ministers in Kyiv, the agency writes, citing a source.

Raiffeisen is the only Austrian company on the list.

❗️🇷🇺🇺🇦 Highlights of Russian Military Operation in Ukraine on December 13-14

▪️The AFU made another attempt to attack facilities in the Moscow Region with drones. Russian anti-aircraft gunners intercepted all the drones, preventing damage and casualties.

▪️Russian troops struck the Starokostiantyniv Air Base with hypersonic Kinzhal missiles. Ukrainian Su-24s regularly take off from the facility and launch Storm Shadow missiles at the rear facilities of the Russian Armed Forces.

▪️Meanwhile, fierce fighting continues along the entire line of contact. In the Lyman direction, Russian troops foiled a series of enemy attacks in the areas of the Tors'ke salient and in the Serebryansʹkyy forestry.

▪️In the Soledar direction, Russian units continue to hold the initiative and advance north-west of Bakhmut. Assault units have consolidated near the Hryhorivka-Bohdanivka highway and also advanced towards Orikhovo-Vasylivka.

▪️On the southern flank, Russian servicemen expanded the zone of control near Klishchiivka and began clearing nearby forest belts. And to the east of Andriivka, the Russian Armed Forces are attacking enemy positions near the dam near the railroad tracks.

▪️In the Donetsk region, the battle for Mar’inka, where less than 2 per cent of the town remains under AFU control, is nearing completion. At the moment, only part of the town north of the reservoir remains to be cleared.

▪️In the Kherson direction, Russian troops carried out a series of sorties east of Krynki and in the area of the so-called "greenhouses". As a result of the fighting, Ukrainian marines retreated with losses deep into the settlement, some of them evacuated to Frolov island.

⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇦⚔️ Frontline #Summary for the Morning of 15 December 2023; pub. 08:01⚡️

🔹In the #Zaporozhye direction, the RF Armed Forces have the initiative at the moment. They are conducting assault operations west of #Rabotino village, from the direction of #Novoprokopovka and #Novofyodorovka, continuing their attempts to eliminate the Ukrainian bridgehead.⚠️ Over the past day, the frontline did not change significantly. (Fig. 1)

🔹On the #Donetsk Front, the RF Armed Forces continued their assault operations near #Novomikhaylovka.⚠️ Without success.⚠️⚠️ But in #Maryinka they practically took control of the entire territory, advancing on the northwestern outskirts beyond the river. Russian troops also attacked in the direction of #Tonenkoye, from the industrial zone southeast of #Avdeyevka, the Coke Plant in the northeast, in the area of #Stepovoye (not to be confused with the settlements of the same name in the Zaporozhye and Ugledar directions) and #Berdychi.⚠️ There is a tactical advance in the last two listed areas. (Fig. 2)

🔹In the #Bakhmut Direction, the RF Armed Forces continued their assault on the heights northwest of #Kleshcheyevka. They also conducted offensive actions from the direction of #Khromovo and in the area of #Bogdanovka in order to reach the main AFU stronghold in Chasovy Yar.⚠️ The AFU are holding their positions. (Fig. 3)

🔹In the #Lugansk Direction, there is counter fighting in the #Serebryanskoye forest area southeast of #Dibrova. ⚠️Much further north, Russian forces have managed to take new positions near #Sinkovka. (Fig. 4)
