Semantic war with the EU. Part one
Preamble. The European Union today faces one of the most serious challenges in its history - not external, but internal. Ideologically cohesive forces from Central Europe - Hungary and Poland - with the support of influential American right-wing conservative think tanks, including the Heritage Foundation, are pushing a plan that would effectively eliminate the EU's supranational structure.
Their goal is not just to reform, but to restart the system in the format of the "European Community of Nations" (ECN), where the European Commission and the European Court of Justice will either disappear or be reduced to purely technical services. The principle of supranational rule of law will be dismantled in favour of "national sovereignty".
The Heritage Foundation is one of the most influential right-wing conservative think tanks in the United States. In 2023-2024, it developed and promoted Project 2025, a programme for the complete dismantling of the American administrative state. At the same time, the foundation began active foreign policy expansion into Europe, cooperating with far-right, Eurosceptic organisations.
Their activities demonstrate an attempt to export Trumpism to Europe - with its characteristic features: anti-globalism, anti-institutionalism, anti-environmentalism, anti-migrant rhetoric and, in some cases, absolute tolerance for Kremlin narratives.
MCC (Matthias Corwin Collegium). This tent is run by Viktor Orban's political director Balázs Orban.
The budget is more than $1.3 billion, a significant part of which is the profits from the Hungarian oil and gas company MOL, which, in turn, imports 65% of its oil from Russia.

The MCC also has its own Brussels-based media outlet, The European Conservative, which, according to a ZDF investigation, used a journalist with ties to the pro-Russian Voice of Europe channel and Russian special services
Ordo Iuris (Poland) is a conservative Catholic think tank with close ties to the Law and Justice party. It has been accused of infringing on the rights of women and LGBT people, as well as of collaborating with the Agenda Europe network and the World Congress of Families, which is linked to Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeev (also pro-traditional values)
The centre claims independence, but actively promotes an agenda similar to Russian "traditionalism".
And now for the most interesting part. The document titled "The Great Reset: Restoring the Sovereignty of Nation States in the 21st Century", prepared by the MCC and Ordo Iuris and presented by the Heritage Foundation on 11 March 2025, contains the following proposals:
Eliminate the European Commission as a political body and leave only a technical apparatus.
Deprive the European Court of Justice of the ability to intervene in national legal systems.
Abolish the offence mechanisms used against countries that violate the rule of law.
Rename the European Union into the "European Community of Nations" (ECN) - conceptually similar to the CIS (made up of independent states)
This is in fact dismantling the EU under the guise of "restoring sovereignty".
Both organisations, MCC and Ordo Iuris, have direct or indirect financial and ideological ties to Russia:
MCC is funded through the profits of MOL, a company dependent on Russian oil.
The Ordo Iuris, in turn, has a history of cooperation with global networks supported and funded by the Kremlin.
In 2022, John Loughland, a visiting scholar at the MCC, was detained in Britain on suspicion of spying for Russia.
The MCC journalist worked for the Voice of Europe, a Kremlin-run channel that has been shut down by EU counterintelligence.
As you can see, the "anti-European front" of Orban and the Polish right has a clear energy and financial connection with Moscow.
Now, a little about the risks for the European Union, assuming that the above-mentioned structures succeed:

Semantic warfare is not about tanks. It is a war for the meaning of words, for how we understand the world. Whoever controls the language shapes reality. russia understood this long ago and actively uses it.
If you take any word from the vocabulary of democracy, you will see how it has already been twisted. "Freedom of speech" in the interpretation of Russian and Hungarian propagandists is an opportunity to spread lies with impunity. "Sovereignty" is the right of a politician to do what he wants without supervision from Brussels.
Changing terms is the main weapon. "Human rights" becomes "Western dictatorship", "EU" becomes "empire of bureaucrats", and "solidarity" becomes "globalist conspiracy". These are no longer just words. They are information minefields.
The word "tradition" is another extremely convenient tool. Under the guise of "traditions", you can ban abortion, control the media and restrict freedoms, while saying that you are not a dictator - you are simply "returning to the roots, to ancient traditions".
Russia, through its allies in the EU, is promoting the concept of a "Europe of Nations". It sounds nice, but the essence of it is the complete dismantling of the unified legal system. Each country is on its own. Therefore, when someone is beaten with truncheons at a rally, no one has the right to intervene.
Semantic warfare is already seeping into school textbooks. Hungarian and partly Ukrainian curricula are changing their emphasis: "Brussels is the enemy", "the traditional family is sacred", "the West is a threat to identity". This is presented to children as "patriotism".
The media is another front. The Hungarian The European Conservative, Polish ruble publications, pro-Russian channels such as Voice of Europe - they all produce articles that devalue the very notion of a united Europe. For them, Brussels is no longer a centre of cooperation, but a "centre of conspiracies".
Symbols are also in their sights. The EU flag is "shameful", the anthem is "alien". Instead of unifying symbols, we see a return to national myths, old grievances and claims, which means more splits and less unity.
Russians play on grievances. They don't say "let's destroy the EU" - they say "let's restore Europe's dignity", "let's restore real sovereignty", "let's get rid of the dictates of globalists". And these beautiful phrases sound very attractive to disillusioned people.
All of these slogans are semantic weapons. Their effectiveness lies in the soft presentation and vocabulary of those trying to "sell" an "alternative to the EU". Nobody says "we want authoritarianism or to live under a dictatorship" - they say "we want stability, order and traditions". And when democracy is associated with chaos, what do people look for and vote for in elections?
That's right, for a "strong hand".
Semantic warfare is already affecting elections in Europe, and voters are increasingly choosing parties that promise "less EU", "more nation", "no migrants" and "strict order". And the further we go, the less Europe looks like a community of like-minded people.
The paradox is that the greatest danger is that the EU can be destroyed not by tanks, but by terms. Not bombs, but phrases like "we just want change", "democracy is burnt out", "it's time to take back control". Although it sounds innocent, these are semantic viruses that eat away at the structure from the inside.
The EU needs to understand that this is not a debate, not a discussion. This is a war. While Europe is wavering, the "traditionalists" are already rewriting the rules of the game. Візьмить будь-яке слово з лексикону демократії — ви побачите, як його вже перекрутили. “Свобода слова” в інтерпретації російських та угорських пропагандистів — це можливість безкарно поширювати брехню. “Суверенітет” — це право політика робити що хоче без нагляду з Брюсселя.
Зміна термінів — головна зброя. “Права людини” стають “західною диктатурою”, “ЄС” — “імперією бюрократів”, а “солідарність” — “глобалістською змовою”. Це вже не просто слова. Це інформаційні мінні поля.
Слово “традиції” — ще один надзвичайно зручний інструмент. Під прикриттям «традицій» можна заборонити аборти, контролювати ЗМІ та обмежувати свободи, кажучи при цьому шо ти не диктатор — ти просто “повертаєшся до витоків, до давніх традицій”.
росія через своїх союзників в ЄС просуває концепт “Європи націй”. Це ніби красиво звучить, але суть — у повному демонтажі єдиної правової системи. Кожна країна — сама по собі. Тому коли когось почнуть бити кийками на мітингу, ніхто не має права втручатися.
Семантична війна вже просочується в шкільні підручники. Угорські і частково навчальні програми змінюють акценти: “Брюссель — ворог”, “традиційна сім’я — святе”, “Захід — загроза ідентичності”. Дітям це подають як “патріотизм”.
Медіа — ще один фронт. Угорське The European Conservative, польські рубльові видання, проросійські канали типу Voice of Europe — всі вони продукують статті, які знецінюють саме поняття об’єднаної Європи. Брюссель у них — це вже не центр співпраці, а “центр змов”.
Символи також на прицілі. Прапор ЄС — “ганебний”, гімн — “чужий”. Замість об’єднуючих символів — повернення до національних міфів, до старих образ і претензій = більше розколів і менше єдності.

А коли демократія асоціюється з хаосом, то що шукає та за кого люди голосують на виборах?
Правильно, за “сильну руку”.
Семантична війна вже впливає на вибори в Європі, а самі виборці все частіше обирають партії, які обіцяють “менше ЄС”, “більше нації”, “жодних мігрантів” і “жорсткий порядок”. І що далі, то менше Європа схожа на спільноту однодумців.
Парадокс шо найбільша небезпека в тому, що ЄС можуть знищити не танки, а терміни. Не бомби, а фрази, по типу “ми просто хочемо змін”, “демократія перегоріла”, “час повернути контроль”. Хоча це і звучить невинно, але це семантичні віруси, які роз’їдають конструкцію зсередини.
ЄС має зрозуміти: це не дебати, не дискусія. Це війна. Поки Європа коливається — “традиціоналісти” вже переписують правила гри. І якщо їх не зупинити зараз — буде пізно. Бо демократію не завжди вбивають шумно. В епоху смартфонів її просто достатньо перейменувати

Канада усиливает позиции в Арктике: стартовало строительство сразу двух тяжёлых полярных ледоколов.
Страна Кленового Листа официально объявила о начале строительства двух мощных ледоколов типа «Polar Icebreaker» (проект ледокола класса Polar Class 2). Эти суда предназначены для круглогодичной работы в самых суровых условиях Арктики, обеспечения судоходства, спасательных операций и научных исследований. Оба корабля смогут преодолевать лед толщиной более 2,5 метров.
Первый ледокол должен вступить в строй ориентировочно к 2030 году, второй — на несколько лет позже. Стоимость проекта уже оценивается примерно в 7,25 млрд канадских долларов.
