Diagnosis: Dissent. A film you need to see

Preamble. If someone thinks that this article is about a film, they are a bit mistaken.

The article is actually about freedom, which did not exist in the days of the ice cream factory. The film is just episodes of what life was like for those who had their own opinions or their own worldview, and how they were forced to march in line and not stand out.

This film is not about music, not about punitive psychiatry, but about how you can resist. You either have a pose or a position. Period.

Punitive psychiatry is just one of the tools used by the authorities of the Plombir era to "re-educate" dissidents. Music is just a pretext to break someone who can afford to stand out

Music is another story altogether - the Chekists were afraid of anything that was difficult to control. Music can shape your worldview: if you sing for 30 years about loving the party, you will love the party. But if you sing about freedom....

I'm not going to spoil it. Because this is a Ukrainian film. It's pro-Ukrainian, not about Vasyl in trousers, as they did in the USSR. I'm in favour of you watching the film. It is unlikely that you will be able to watch it with popcorn in the evening, but...

But it's worth it. Because punitive psychiatry is not as far away as it seems. Just look at the map and measure the distance to Russia. It's been happening there for a long time and the whole world doesn't give a fuck about Russians (I don't either, but that's not the main topic of this article).

If anyone thinks that during the occupation of the territories of Ukraine, this is not the case, I have to disappoint you - you have slept through it all. This has been happening since 2014. First it was the south of Ukraine, then the east. And then...

Then it's history.

Russians hate freedom on a genetic level. That's why they know how to break people from the inside. If you are sure that they will never break you personally, I have bad news for you - most people will break if you let the Russians kill the human in you.

Or everything human.

The terminology doesn't really matter. What is important is that they are ready to tear themselves to shreds to make cattle out of everyone, who will never give a voice without a command.

What matters is that those wild lands are an hour, two, ten hours away by car at most. That terrible place where you will be tied to a table is not Australia or Argentina. It's a shorter distance than from Ternopil to Odesa. And then there is darkness.

A quote from the film:

-You don't like the way I work?

-I don't like the way you live. It's because of the music you listen to. It's all about violence and anti-communism.

It's about the times our relatives lived in. You can only listen to the "ideologically correct" music that the party allows and approves. And that's it.

If you think otherwise, you're crazy! You're wearing a fucking good thing.

Here's another quote:

-Do you think that the Soviet government can treat its citizens unfairly?

Fuck, this is the whole USSR in one sentence. Because during the Soviet Union, it was believed that only a person who was not in his right mind could criticise the Soviet government.

"Today you criticise the Soviet government, then you are inspired to hate the police, and then you end up attempting to kill someone in high places"-this is another example of how a person's life could be ruined out of nothing in the days of the filling.

Because if you have a sexual organ, it means that you could theoretically want to use it, for example, to shame respected members of the society. Or use urine for other purposes and desecrate a monument to Stalin.

That's why you're serving five years in prison. Why so many? Just in case. Who knows what's on your mind, what anti-Soviet and anti-Communist ideas you're harbouring?

One of the last quotes in the film is a stab in the dark:

-What did you miss?

-Patients.

-Your wards are full. Patients - darkness.

-Patients are dark. And there are fewer and fewer patients

And this is what the film's protagonist says, who worked in a psychiatric hospital where people were forcibly "treated" for "schizophrenia"

Epilogue. This article is not about the film. This article is about how dissidents were broken.

An article about how Soviet people lived peacefully, knowing full well that their neighbours were being tortured.

An article about a relative informing on a relative and about sons being forced to publicly condemn the actions of their parents who acted according to their conscience. In exchange for a cage - a chance to live among hypocrites, among queues and shortages

In exchange for a closed face and the fear of telling a joke if there are unreliable people in the room who will not inform the KGB

Posture or position. If you are in a pose, you are a respected member of the Savitsky community. If you have a stance or principles, you are a madman. It's your choice, it's your life. You decide what to do with it.

The paramedics with the haloperidol are not far away - it's less than an hour's drive from Kharkiv. From Pokrovsk, 10 minutes. From Sumy, 40-45 minutes.

The paramedics are ready to inject you until you turn into a vegetable and start loving Putin. Or you'll admit that you acted like that because of American propaganda and atrocious liver. The main thing is that they don't tie you up with belts and leave you in this state for a week. As for conscience and principles... you don't die from that and don't go to the toilet bleeding.

Pose or position. Who is the bigger psycho: The "doctors" who made a deal with their own conscience, or the "patients" who had the courage to think differently?

This is what the film is about. About those for whom the freedom to think and listen to what they want, not what they are allowed to, is the highest value

This "disease" cannot be cured. It is in our blood. Maybe not all of us, but a part of the population definitely has it.

Thank you for your attention
