Accrescent and Android Developer Verification
Google recently announced that starting next year, Android will require all apps to be registered by verified developers for users to install them on their devices, i.e., all apps must be registered by a developer who has performed identity verification with…
Commerzbank (one of the largest German banks) just banned GrapheneOS:
https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/28440-commerzbank-one-of-the-largest-german-banks-bans-grapheneos
There is literally zero reason why banking apps shouldn't work on GrapheneOS, and yet so many European financial institutions prefer to rely on the security assurances of megacorporations controlled by a foreign country.
At least I hope that the current geopolitical madness will contribute to stopping this plague.

Keep Android Open
Your phone is about to stop being yours. In 2027, Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with them.

Google announced that as of September 2026, it will no longer be possible to develop apps for the Android platform without first registering centrally with Google. This registration will involve:
- Paying a fee to Google
- Agreeing to Google’s Terms and Conditions
- Providing government identification
- Uploading evidence of the developer’s private signing key
- Listing all current and future application identifiers

KDE supports the "Keep Android Open" campaign
#Google will cut off independent developers to #Android if they do not register with Google first. This will kill independent platforms like @fdroidorg@floss.social and severely impede FLOSS devs from creating apps for Android.

Many KDE apps are deployed for Android: KDE Connect, Itinerary, Tokodon, and there's even a test version of Krita for Android.
KDE calls on Google to reverse course and @keepandroidopen@techhub.social.

Motorola announces partnership with Graphene OS to bring us secure phones!
https://motorolanews.com/motorola-three-new-b2b-solutions-at-mwc-2026/
So the mysterious manufacturer GOS was working with was Motorola, not OnePlus as early speculations suggested. This is good news, Motorola is owned by Lenovo and makes cool phones!
Reminder that Graphene OS is still based on AOSP and therefore, IMHO, eventually doomed to succumb to Google's shenanigans. However, for now and for the foreseeable future, that's the best we can have.

Attached the copy of a mail developers with apps in the PlayStore CURRENTLY receive. Please, read the text in the red box carefully:
"Apps not registered by September 2026 WILL NO LONGER BE INSTALLABLE ON CERTIFIED ANDROID DEVICES in select countries."
See an exception there? I don't.

sounds like the web is about to get a lot more annoying to use for #grapheneos users and others using #android devices with """compromised integrity""", people without smartphones, people using smartphones with other operating systems, etc.: https://support.google.com/recaptcha/answer/16609652
google's new "mobile reCAPTCHA verification" will require you to scan a QR code from either an iOS device with the reCAPTCHA app or an android device with up-to-date google play services.
EDIT: this is part of google's new "fraud defense" system, and is (seemingly) intended to be used for more "important" things like purchases rather than just e.g. comment sections. however, there's nothing stopping site owners from using this thing everywhere
