#WeAreF1 - This is Andrew Frankl, a journalist who has been part of the F1 family for more than 50 years.
The 80-year-old fled the onset of communism in Hungary in 1956, but went on to play a role in establishing the Hungaroring medical centre that helped Felipe Massa after his accident in 2009.
Our sport would not be the same without the passion and dedication of people like Andrew. We look forward to him being part of the family for a long while yet!

“I’m trying to see a picture behind a picture” - F1 photographer @vladimirrys

The learning curve was steep for Vladimir Rys when he was sent to cover his first race, the Australian Grand Prix, back in 2005. “I had no clue! I didn’t know where to go, what was allowed”, he says. Since then, Rys has more than cemented his place on the grid as one of the sports top photographers, winning numerous awards for his work trackside. “It’s always a challenge coming back to the same track, and trying to find new pictures. And that’s why I love F1”

John Pearson was just a boy when his father first took him to Silverstone in 1948, igniting a passion for racing cars that has lasted a lifetime. Soon, he was bunking off school to attend races and, in 1950, he was given a job at the first ever F1 World Championship race. Pearson went on to carve out a career in motorsport working for Ferrari at their Maranello factory before going on to run his own business back in Britain. Pearson returned to Silverstone for this year’s British Grand Prix to watch the famous Alfa Romeo Tipo 159 “Alfetta” back on track, 68 years after its last appearance, with current Alfa Romeo driver Kimi Raikkonen at the wheel.

You might not be familiar with the face but motorsport fans will immediately recognise the voice of F1 announcer Bob Constanduros. His exuberant cries of “champpaaggnnneee” has been the cue for hundreds of podium celebrations. Inspired by a Brazilian football commentator’s exaggerated shouts of “Goooaaaaallll”. Constanduros has been a fixture behind the mic at F1 races for more than three decades. The veteran of more than 650 grands prix also keeps fans in the grandstands up to speed with all the action happening on track. He jokes about his “high mileage” but Constanduros has no intention of hanging up his mic anytime soon. “It’s difficult to imagine not being involved,” he says. “It’s a way of life”.
