hey serious question: why did america care so much about the spread of communism?
the idea that america just didnt want the ussr to be powerful makes sense but its far too simple of an answer.
when france guillotined their king and became a democracy a lot of other rulers were like "oh shit what if that happens to me?" and tried to contain liberalism in their own borders. that makes sense. i dont believe that american rulers thought "oh shit what if we become communist?"
in fact that doesnt make any sense because people love FDR and he was a socialist (maybe even a national socialist). i would expect them to hate fdr if they actually didnt like socialism/communism.
if anything they should have been totally into communism because they would want to have a command economy because it would be peak "you will own nothing and be happy" (or else the commissar will kill you).
