Take the latest case: a 52-year-old from Eagan, Minnesota, Thomas Peter Katsampes, got 250 months behind bars yesterday, plus lifetime supervision and $23,000 in victim restitution. He admitted to conspiring to advertise and distribute child porn, starting as a user in 2022 before rising to moderator, where he enforced posting rules and coached others on sharing CSAM involving prepubescent kids.
This builds on eight other convictions in Florida's Southern District for running the main site. Sentences ranged from 20 years and 10 months up to life, with hefty restitutionsโhighlighting the severe accountability for enabling such depravity. For instance, one Alabama man drew life for his role in the exploitation enterprise.
Beyond Florida, nine more U.S. convictions in districts like Maryland and Texas added sentences from five years and eight months to 18 years. Two suspects died before charges, and arrests extended internationally to the UK, Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Estonia, Belgium, and South Africa.

In a July 22 ruling, the Third Circuit appeals court sided with CoreCivic.
โJust as the federal government cannot control a state, so too a state cannot control the federal government. Each is sovereign. Each is โprotected from incursion by the other,โโ Circuit Judge Stephanos Bibas wrote.
Sometimes, a state interferes directly with federal policy, destroying it through โhostile legislation,โ he added.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R) filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Jefferson City arguing that Planned Parenthoodโs claims that the abortion drug is safer than many other medications including penicillin and Tylenol are untrue and violate the stateโs consumer-protection law.
Bailey claims that the nonprofit organization has lied about the safety of the drug to โcut costs and boost revenue,โ according to the lawsuit. The complaint also requests a court order to stop Planned Parenthood from โcontinuing to promote the falsehoods,โ in Missouri and for the organization to pay more than $1.8 million in civil penalties.
