NEWπ: A Chinese American U.S. Commerce Department employee, a former Army veteran, is stuck in China under an exit ban after failing to disclose his Patent and Trademark Office role on his visa application. He arrived in Chengdu in April to visit family, butβ¦
China denied on Tuesday that it is doing anything wrong as it reportedly prevents "dozens" of Americans from leaving the country under an "exit ban" policy, including at least one U.S. government official.
Reports emerged Monday afternoon that an American citizen, an employee of the Commerce Department, has been barred from leaving China and prevented from returning to the U.S. since his passport, credit card, cellphone and iPad were seized on April 14, reported The New York Times.
The passport was reportedly returned to the individual one week later on April 22, though he was told he was not allowed to leave China.
The identity of the government official remains unknown, though a spokesperson for the State Department confirmed to Fox News Digital that the individual is a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office employee and was traveling to China "in a personal capacity."

ICYMIπΏ: House Speaker Mike Johnson said Monday he would not hesitate to bring former President Barack Obama before a congressional committee to testify on the 2016 Trump-Russia investigation by his administration.
Johnson (R-La.) called recent revelations by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard βdeeply problematicβ and suggested that Obamaβs status as a former president wouldnβt shield him from receiving a subpoena, should lawmakers deem it necessary.
βWe have no concern about that. If itβs uncomfortable for him, he shouldnβt have been involved in overseeing this, which is what it appears to us has happened,β Johnson told Christian Broadcasting Network commentator David Brody.
Presidential testimony before Congress is rarely sought and requests are often challenged due to separation-of-powers concerns. The two most recent former presidents to appear before Congress were Harry Truman in 1955 and Gerald Ford in 1983.

ICYMI: A critical security flaw in Microsoft's SharePoint software has triggered widespread breaches, affecting government agencies, businesses, and institutions across multiple continents. Since attacks began around July 18, 2025, hackers have compromisedβ¦
UPDATE: A security patch released by Microsoft earlier this month failed to fully fix a critical flaw in the U.S. tech company's SharePoint server software that had been identified at a hacking competition in May, opening the door to a sweeping global cyber espionage operation, according to a timeline of events reviewed by Reuters.
A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that its initial solution did not work. The spokesperson added that Microsoft had released further patches that fixed the issue.
It remains unclear who is behind the ongoing operation, which targeted around 100 organisations over the weekend and is expected to escalate as other hackers join the fray. Microsoft said in a blog post that two allegedly Chinese hacking groups, dubbed "Linen Typhoon" and "Violet Typhoon," were exploiting the vulnerabilities, along with another China-based hacking group.
Microsoft and Alphabet's Google have said that China-linked hackers were likely behind the first wave of hacks.
Chinese government-linked operatives are regularly implicated in cyberattacks, but Beijing routinely denies carrying out hacking operations. In an emailed statement, the Chinese embassy in Washington said China opposes all forms of cyberattacks, and "smearing others without solid evidence."

JUST INπ₯: The ongoing tussle between President Trump and the Associated Press reached a pivotal moment today when the DC Circuit Court of Appeals denied the AP's petition for a rehearing en banc. This leaves standing the court's June 6 panel ruling, which largely reinstated the White House's ban on AP journalists from key press pool areas like the Oval Office, Air Force One, and Mar-a-Lago. It's a clear affirmation of the president's authority to manage access in private workspaces, even if it ruffles feathers in the press corps.

NEWπ: Judges vote against extending Alina Habba's term as US attorney in New Jersey
Interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba's future as the top prosecutor in the District of New Jersey was thrust into uncertainty Tuesday after district court judges voted against keeping her in the role.
Habba's 120-day term expires Tuesday night, and after convening behind closed doors Monday to consider extending her term, the judges voted to replace her with Desiree Grace, a career attorney and Habba's top assistant. Grace will take over the post temporarily beginning Wednesday.
Habba, who served as President Donald Trumpβs personal lawyer and legal spokeswoman during his campaign, stirred controversy soon after she ascended to U.S. attorney.
Trump made clear this month he wanted to keep Habba as U.S. attorney, nominating her for the full four-year position earlier this month. Habba has also nabbed endorsements from several law enforcement groups, who have praised her as a tough prosecutor who will prioritize street crime.

WaPo: Without much notice, the Education Department has suspended student loan forgiveness under a long-standing repayment plan, offering no timeline for resumption and little explanation for the decision.
Income-Based Repayment is one of four federal plans that tie monthly payments to earnings and family size with the promise of loan forgiveness after 20 or 25 years of payments. It is the only income-driven plan that is not affected by a court injunction and, therefore, the only one still processing loan forgiveness, according to the department. About 2 million borrowers are enrolled in the plan.
But in an FAQ updated earlier this month, the department said: βIBR forgiveness is paused while our systems are updated to accurately count months not affected by the courtβs injunction. IBR forgiveness will resume once those updates are completed.β

NEWπ₯: Three House committees are banding together to subpoena Democratic fundraising giant ActBlue on Tuesday, accusing the platform of having accepted "fraudulent or illegal" donations for left-wing candidates.
"In light of allegations that online fundraising platforms that serve as conduits for political donations have accepted fraudulent donations from domestic and foreign sources, the Committees are conducting oversight to inform potential legislative reforms," House investigators' letter to ActBlue read.
"To further our oversight and legislative reform efforts, on April 2, 2025, the Committees requested documents and communications related to internal misconduct and whistleblower retaliation at ActBlue. Although ActBlue initially provided documents voluntarily, it has since suspended its cooperation with the Committees. Therefore, the Committee on House Administration must resort to compulsory process to obtain the requested materials."
The subpoena is being led by Committee on House Administration Chair Bryan Steil, R-Wis., House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., and House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.

People with congestive heart failure, undergoing treatment for schizophrenia or who have a history of paraphilic disorders will no longer be eligible for a medical waiver to serve in the military, according to new rules issued by the Pentagon on Tuesday.
The guidance signed by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth updates a list of conditions that disqualify potential recruits from serving in the armed forces. The decision comes after the Pentagon announced earlier this year that it would ban transgender troops and review other medical conditions that are currently eligible for a waiver.
βAmericaβs warfighters must be physically and mentally capable of performing their duties in the harshest of conditions,β Hegseth wrote in the memo announcing the changes. βSevere underlying medical conditions introduce significant risks on the battlefield and threaten not only mission priorities, but also the health and safety of the affected individual and their fellow service members.β

BREAKINGπ¨π₯΄:The office of U.S. Democratic former President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that a document issued last week by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence does not undercut the conclusion that Russia tried to influence the 2016 U.S. election but that it did not manipulate any votes.

Republicans in Congress are working to rename a portion of Washington's John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts after First Lady Melania Trump.
Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, pioneered the effort that would the rename the performing arts center's opera house after the first lady.
His amendment was adopted on Tuesday and is expected to be given a full vote on the House floor once Congress returns from August recess in September.
'The Opera House located in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts shall be known and designated as the 'First Lady Melania Trump Opera House,' the text states.
The veteran GOP lawmaker, who has been dubbed 'MAGA Mike,' told the Daily Mail in a statement he wanted to honor Melania. It is unclear if the move was coordinated with the White House or the Kennedy Center.

Advisers to President Donald Trump will tour the Federal Reserveβs headquarters on Thursday as the administration ratchets up pressure on Chair Jerome Powell over a $2.5 billion renovation of central bank facilities, interest rates and the Fedβs overall mission.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff James Blair β who also holds a seat on an urban planning commission thatβs at the center of Fed renovation controversy β confirmed the visit in a post on X late Tuesday morning.
Trump Budget Director Russ Vought teased the possibility of a site visit at a breakfast Q&A event hosted by the Christian Science Monitor last week. The Fed had initially offered an after-hours visit scheduled for Friday evening, which the White House rejected, and subsequently posted a virtual tour of the construction site on its website. Vought launched an investigation into Powellβs oversight of the project earlier this month β a move thatβs been widely interpreted as a potential avenue for Trump to attempt firing the Fed Chair for cause.
Spokespeople for the central bank, White House and National Capital Planning Commission did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan was among those questioned under oath this month after release of a new documentary about the sexual abuse of Ohio State University athletes decades ago by a team doctor, according to a court filing.
Jordan's deposition Friday came in a federal lawsuit brought by former student athletes against the university over its failure to stop abuse by Dr. Richard Strauss, who died in 2005. Hundreds say they were abused by Strauss, who worked at the school from 1978 to 1998.
Many ex-wrestlers over the years have accused Jordan, who served as assistant coach of the Ohio State wrestling team from 1986 to 1994, of knowing about the abuse and failing to act.
The 10-term congressman's office had declined to confirm Friday's deposition, but it reiterated Jordan's denial of any awareness of Strauss' crimes or the cover-up.
