One thing that is clear from many of the recent videos posted by Ukraine is that artillery is playing a critical role in its defense in the Donbas/Izyum area. The deliveries of M777 howitzers, especially with Excalibur PGM rounds, could play an important role.

One thing that is notable with the UK MoD's figures is that they consider 120 BTGs only 65% of the Russian military's total. That would mean Russia has 184 BTGs and not ~168 which is the figure most people have been using (stated by Shoigu in August).

One thing to keep in mind is that US, UK, and other NATO members have given different estimates of the size and losses of the Russian force. Not clear what assumptions they're using, but you can't necessarily combine different figures from the US and UK and further extrapolate.

As I've said before, the BTG figure is a useful figure for only certain comparisons. There is evidence that many Russian units are fighting as regiments/brigades, not as independent BTGs, and that many battalions are well-below the former T/O and don't have as many attachments.

@paulmcguinness6 I don't have a good idea of how many KIA Russia has sustained, but I don't think they would be able to attempt offensive operations if they sustained that many dead (and applying a multiplier for WIA).
