The Norwegian Coastal Administration has sent a proposal on hearing for new regulations, prohibiting cruise ships over 150m sailing in 6 areas, known for rough weather and challenging to navigate, when the forecast says gusts of 20 m/s or more.

This follows the incident with Viking Sky, which lost propulsion in bad weather on Hustadvika in 2019, where only luck prevented a disaster.

Accidents with large cruise ships in these areas can lead to heavy loss of life as rescuing everyone is impossible.
