@ukraine_map @DaldoWaldo: Russia claims that X-101 has a claimed range of 3,500km, but I don’t know if that’s been verified. Usually, they fly 1,000km to 2,000km from launch to target in Ukraine.

Tomahawks have a range of 1,700km to 2,400km. But that 2,500km version was with a nuclear warhead and has been replaced. But it’s possible the US has some of those left. The current max Tomahawk range is classified, but we know it is at least in excess of 1,670km, probably a couple hundred km more. Some older versions of Tomahawk had a range of 1,300km, but they were since upgraded to have a range of over 1,670km at a classified max range.

If brought into US service, the US has also been offered a JASSM-XR missile with a range of around 1,600km. Currently, US missile ranges stand at

1. AGM-86B (2,400km) (Nuclear)
2. Tomahawk (+1,670km)
3. JASSM-ER ALCM (926km)
4. PRSM for HIMARS (500-1000km)
5. JASSM ALCM (370km)
6. ATACMS M39A1/M57 (300km)
7. SLAM-ER ALCM (270km)
8. ATACMS M39 (165km)

US was also developing or had a ground-launched Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW) that would fly at speeds of 5 Mach but maneuver as a hypersonic missile with a hypersonic glide vehicle, which has a max range of at least 3700km to classified. US also has an anti-ship missile called LRASM with a reported max range of reportedly around 475km or more. The US will also be getting GMLRS-ER launched by HIMARS as production ramps with a range of 150km, more than 70 to 78km from regular GMLRS.

The US also plans to receive SiAW missile, Stand-in Attack Weapon, in 2026 to launch from F-35s at ground targets, and that may have a max range of 200km to 300km. Still, it is unknown what the actual max range will be. The US will increase production of the AGM-88G, an anti-radar HARM missile with a range of 290km. Ukraine has the older version of anti-radar and the slightly newer AGM-88E HARM with a max range of 110km but the effective max range is more like 70-80km.

@cym27s: That’s kind of what I thought. Without looking at it.

Those number make sense with their firing rate although this shows that Russia is still able to maintain a large number of Iskander-M despite firing them daily into Ukraine. They increased their stockpile by 30%. X-101 is high too. They didn’t launch it for 2-3 months now, but if the 220 X-101 is after this weeks strike then they can still do 3-4 more similar large strikes before needing to pause and build more.

As well as Kinzhals, they don’t fire a lot, but still have been able to maintain a stockpile of 80, production was reported at around 10-12 per month. Kalibr is a lot too, but they don’t have the capacity to fire that many at once, they usually have 20-30 loaded onto ships and submarines at once.

The numbers are high, that’s higher than before. The only way to deal with this is strike the Iskander-M launchers, Tu-95 bombers, and ships in the Black Sea. But that’s extremely hard, Ukraine doesn’t have the permission or capability to reach that far away. Factories should be the key target, but then they also lack permission and capability. The bigger problem is the air defenses, not that they don’t have them, but the number of missiles needed to shoot down those cruise and ballistic missiles is a lot. It’s possible to do it for several strikes, but after each strike the air defenses may get more depleted increasing weak spots in air defenses. Russia doesn’t fire these all at once, and usually launches X-101 over multiple big strikes then pauses X-101 strikes for several months. But it is more concerning that they have been able to m slightly increase and maintain their stockpile of missiles like Iskander-M.

@gxp11 @cym27s: Russia was low on its stockpile in mid-2022 because they weren’t expecting the war to go that long. They didn’t permanently run out. Just like you can run out of milk and go to the store to buy more. Then they increased their production of missiles over time. But they don’t have unlimited numbers, when they reeach around 300 X-101s, they launch a couple hundred at Ukraine then pause for 2-3 months to prepare for other attacks.
