“So many soldiers have now been killed that the payments—totaling as much as $30 billion in the past year as of June—are a telling symptom of how the war is transforming Russian society and the economy at large. Since the start of the invasion, the Kremlin has boosted military spending to post-Soviet highs, offsetting some of the impact of Western sanctions. Weapons factories work around the clock, providing employment and high wages.

Now the mounting death payments are providing an injection of wealth into some of Russia’s poorest areas in return for a steady stream of soldiers for the war effort. Poverty levels are now at their lowest since data collection began in 1995, according to official statistics.”

@NOELreports: They continue with this excuses. They don’t have to be in Ukraine to defeat Russia, they could give Ukraine enough weaponry so they can take Russia off of Ukrainian land. People still think Russia will use a nuke if Ukraine takes back their own land. It’s nonsense Kremlin threats

@ukraine_map @NOELreports: The message he is sending is that any country with Nuclear Weapons should attack another country without nuclear weapons because no other stronger country would give sufficient weaponry to help the defending country win the war.

How about Taiwan. Will it be the same dumb excuse?

@kueilelee @NOELreports: How about Taiwan? Is China now allowed to invade Taiwan because the US would be too scared to send Taiwan the sufficient weaponry to defend against China? Is Russia and any other nuclear power now allowed to change borders by force indefinitely without being defeat?

"At several flashpoints across the 1,000km-long frontline, Ukraine’s troops are enduring relentless Russian air and ground assaults. A commander of an artillery unit near Kurakhove, where the fighting is most intense, told the FT on Monday that Russian troops were 'attacking from three sides'. He and his troops 'are ready to pull back' he said, 'but we do not have the order from the top yet'.

Kurakhove and the city of Pokrovsk 40km north are both critical logistical hubs for Ukraine’s army and are largely destroyed. The coking plant on the outskirts of Pokrovsk that has also come under attack is the largest in Ukraine and crucial to its steel manufacturing industry.

CDS, the military think-tank, estimated that by December, 'the front line will probably shift 30-35 km west of its current position'.

Major General Dmytro Marchenko last month said that the eastern front was 'crumbling' owing to shortages of ammunition and manpower. 'People are...
