China finally refused to supply 15 new trains to Belarus because of risks of coming under the U.S. sanctions

In June, we wrote that China postponed the delivery of 15 new BKG2 electric freight locomotives to Belarus, which were to be delivered at the end of 2023.

At that time it was reported that the new delivery dates were postponed to 2025-2026. However, as @belzhd_live has now found out, China refused to supply these trains to Belarus because of fear of coming under sanctions.

According to the documents at the disposal of @belzhd_live, the manufacturer of these trains, the Chinese company CRRC Datong Co., Ltd. “didn’t provide a commercial proposal due to the presence of American parts in the locomotive.”

It’s also said that “in July 2024, [the company] indicated the impossibility of further promotion of the project due to sanctions concerns.” And also proposed to return to the implementation of the project after “normalization of the situation.”

It’s known that now they will be looking for the replacement of these trains in Russia, where only locomotives produced by JSC Transmashholding (TMH) and JSC Sinara-Transport Machines (STM) can be an alternative to BKG2.
